You have high visibility. You have the opportunity to deliver high value. And if you do it right, you earn high trust. At that point, the marketing and sales process is 80% finished and now you’re simply in the process of filtering and sorting your best-fit prospects and you invite them to do business with you! Why should someone consider the strategy of generating business leads from speaking? Every consultant, solopreneur, and small business owner needs to establish their thought leadership in order to stand out from the crowd and be heard above the noise. No matter what business you’re in, there’s simply no room for yet another “Same-O Lame-O” player. Their days are over and their influence and impact are declining… daily… and dramatically. So that means that every day you wait to claim your place among the thought-leaders in your industry and in front of your target buyers, you’re losing time AND money. Don’t let that happen to you. Whenever I work with clients 1-on-1 or speak to groups of business owners, we always ALWAYS start with identifying specifically WHO you are marketing to. I call this your “Buyer Persona” and we use 7 key questions to flesh out the specific characteristics of the folks who are your highest-probability prospects. You need to understand what makes them tick — what are their characteristics, traits, attitudes, and values? What’s important to them? What headaches and heartaches do they have when it comes to the types of problems that your product or service is brilliant at solving? What do they SAY about their situation and what WORDS do they use to describe it? This is what I call “learning to speak prospect language about prospect problems.“ Until you can do that, NO marketing strategy will work, and especially speaking where your main focus is on articulating problems you can solve and sharing answers to those problems that your audience can take away and use immediately. We all want to spend more time in front of right-fit audiences. How do we get started finding them? What groups do my ideal clients belong to? This will obviously determine which audiences you want to be in front of. Here’s my suggestion: Don’t guess — ask! Here is the script to ask your current clients, prospects, and centers of influence who know your target market well… “I’m looking to speak more in front of groups of [BUYER PERSONA]. I’d love to get your advice, insights, and recommendations.” Another way to ask might be… “Of all the industry groups and associations you belong to, which ones provide the most value in terms of the speakers and programs they present?” With both of these scripts, the natural follow-up discussion would center around your desire to serve this industry/community more and to share information with them that would help them become even more successful. Likely outcomes from you having this discussion with your best clients would include: ~ Names of specific groups, associations, and conferences ~ Names of specific people serving in board or programming positions ~ Names of other executives or decision-makers in the field ~ Names of other companies or firms in need of similar information/services ~ Specific networking introductions ~ Offers of referrals to the individuals they already know ~ An opportunity to reciprocate and ask how YOU might be of service to THEM What’s the first step that business owners should take to find those specific “hot button” issues to address in their talk? What’s the first step? Research. Preparation. Homework. Industry, regional, business, and company news is now at everyone’s fingertips on the Internet. Look for verbatim quotes, video clips, audio interviews to capture as much as you can from representative members of your buyer persona group. Search Google, YouTube and LinkedIn. Scan industry and association message boards. Then go directly to the source — your real live customers and prospects. If you’re not intelligently researching your prospects’ issues, challenges, and pressures, how can you possibly come in with credible high-perceived-value solutions? One of the best ways to approach prospects is with: ~ Interviews ~ Surveys ~ Research ~ Data gathering It positions you and your firm as an expert resource and it gives you valuable data you should be getting anyway! what are the top three strategies you suggest our listeners focus on? Figure out the audience you want to serve the most because they are your peeps, your tribe, and your natural followers. Then figure out what they are passionate to learn, to do, or to become. Finally, start talking about, sharing, and connecting them with resources that solve those specific pains, problems, headaches and heartaches. Do so publicly through speaking, publishing, networking — both online and offline — and your reputation as being a source of valuable expertise will spread. Another day, another event and it's once again the magical chants of Pushkar Sharma's bat that did the talking. And then the narrative mounted like a revisionist docudrama that tracks the tragic incidents of terrorist violence across the world, evolves suddenly and almost magically into a gripping tale, in which a stout and tall middle-aged man, dressed in traditional Muslim attire, walks through several desolate landscapes in a presumably hilly region brandishing a pistol in his right hand. His portly frame, his drooping shoulders, his fiery eyes, with images of terrorist attacks still lingering in our minds, helps us to instantly presume that the man is a ruthless militant on an abominable mission. But the mission is unknown to us until he arrives at a hamlet house, stops at the main gate, and knocks on it. It empowers women to allow them to obtain their true rights in society. My story is that of a father professor who shaped my personality and influenced me into becoming an entrepreneur. I am Professionally an Electronics Engineer with a post graduate diploma in Industrial Management. My path to the education sector was driven by my father who was a professor at a premier technical institute, the BITS Pilani in India. Energy efficiency is a key component in our strategy to increase the sustainability of our operations. Championing and practicing energy efficiency helps us reduce emissions, improve the operational performance of our plants and facilities, and promote environmentally responsible communities. Energy efficiency simply means using less energy to perform the same task – that is, eliminating energy waste. Energy efficiency brings a variety of benefits: reducing greenhouse gas emissions, reducing demand for energy imports, and lowering our costs on a household and economy-wide level. While renewable energy technologies also help accomplish these objectives, improving energy efficiency is the cheapest – and often the most immediate – way to reduce the use of fossil fuels. There are enormous opportunities for efficiency improvements in every sector of the economy, whether it is buildings, transportation, industry, or energy generation. Buildings Building designers are looking to optimize building efficiency and then incorporate renewable energy technologies, leading to the creation of zero-energy buildings. Changes in existing buildings can also be made to reduce energy usage and costs. These may include small steps, such as choosing LED light bulbs and energy efficient appliances, or larger efforts such as upgrading insulation and weatherization. Energy Generation and Distribution Combined heat and power systems capture the "waste" heat from power plants and use it to provide heating, cooling, and/or hot water to nearby buildings and facilities. This increases the energy efficiency of power generation from approximately 33 percent to up to 80 percent. The smart grid is another system that will improve the efficiency of electric generation, distribution, and consumption. Community Design Neighbourhoods that are designed with mixed use developments and safe, accessible options for walking, biking, and public transportation are key to reducing the need for personal vehicle travel. Vehicles More energy efficient vehicles require less fuel to cover a given distance. This generates fewer emissions, and makes them significantly less expensive to operate. Plug-in hybrids and fully electric vehicles are particularly fuel efficient. Freight Freight can be moved more efficiently by improving the efficiency of rail and truck transportation and by shifting long-distance freight transport from trucks to rail. Human Behaviour The four strategies above improve energy efficiency primarily through technology and design. However, the way people use these technologies will significantly impact their effectiveness. What impact can a highly efficient technology have if households and businesses are not motivated to buy, install, and/or activate it? How does driving behaviour and unnecessary idling impact gas mileage? How many people will use public transportation if there is a cultural stigma against it? Research has shown that 30 percent of the potential energy savings of high efficiency technologies is lost due to a variety of social, cultural, and economic factors. Addressing these factors is also an important component of making our economy more energy efficient. Energy remains one of the critical challenges of the future. Businesses need to strike the balance between operational efficiency and sustainable development. With soaring energy prices and increased scarcity of natural resources, pinpointing energy efficiencies – from planning to manufacturing to operations - makes good business sense. One way of reducing energy costs is to become more energy efficient so as to optimise existing resources and plan the right investments in new technologies. This will help manage operating costs and provide better delivery of services to customers while reducing environmental impacts and mitigating risk. Additionally, a documented commitment to sustainable development is a powerful and effective way to demonstrate social responsibility and meet changing customer preferences. I never miss a chance to stress that energy saving, especially in the construction sector, is the most important energy resource for our country; sadly, despite progress made in recent years, it still remains untapped. It is a known fact that the “greenest” kWh is the one we have never consumed. Clearly, energy saving in the construction sector must be considered as a national energy resource similar to lignite, the geothermal, the sun and the wind, which can provide in the future a comparative advantage for the country’s economy and development. At international level, the construction sector is one of the most important sectors of economic activity, with a turnover of nearly $3 trillion that represents approximately 10% of the global economy. Buildings consume 40% of the world’s energy and 16% of the world’s drinking water supply, while producing 50% of carbon dioxide emissions. Given that each job in the construction sector leads to the creation of 2 new jobs, it can be argued that buildings, either directly or indirectly, are responsible for creating 20% of global labour. Sustainable management of cities is the challenge of current practices throughout the developed world. It is a holistic approach that combines physical planning, urban planning and architectural design so as to meet the developmental model needs. Proper architectural, bioclimatic and energy design provides a great opportunity for the revitalization and salvation of cities, in ways such as: 1) creation of large, medium and small-size green air-ducts that will guide air turbulence through the city with suitable tree planting along streets, open spaces, main road arteries and squares; 2) use of modern cold materials in spaces, streets, pavements and building façades; 3) installation of energy systems using renewable energy sources in buildings; 4) creation of buildings that incorporate innovative building materials, systems and technologies that do not absorb energy. Sustainability and Reliability will be the Way for the Future Sustainability has to be integral to industry infrastructure development across diverse projects from green buildings to water conservation in municipalities. Today, green buildings that use 100% recycled materials, often ship them from western countries, and thereby undermine the larger objective of reducing the carbon footprint. On the other hand, recycled products can be manufactured in India at one-tenth of the cost of the goods imported. Reliable quality power supply still continues to be the crux of the issues in promoting EE. Despite various initiatives in the power sector, India’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) losses are in the magnitude of 22-45%. These figures are also not from metered calculations; estimated figures indicate a fiscal loss of about INR 20 billion. The utilities are wary about the challenges in convincing the regulators and the consumers of the value and benefits of smart grids. Smart Grids can be integral in such a scenario through automating existing electricity networks and improving communication with consumers. Distribution utilities can optimize power distribution and hence increase efficiency and reduce losses. Besides logistics, data security and privacy become key issues. Utilities and regulators need to realize the project’s investment value, develop sustainable business models and enable decision-makers to make use of Smart Grids successfully. Let me conclude. We must prepare for a post-crisis new normal, and harness energy and resource efficiency on the road to recovery. As the world moves towards a low-carbon future, which it must, economies that start investing in transforming their energy mix and improving energy efficiency will develop greater climate, energy, and economic resilience. Companies, as the building blocks of economic activities, should embrace sustainable business practices now. Emotional Intelligence is the ability of a person to understand, use and manage one’s emotions as well as the emotions of others. Generally, the score on your exam scorecard is considered a parameter to evaluate your success, but whatever profession or career you choose, you cannot be successful if you are not emotionally balanced. It is because our thinking capabilities and decision-making capabilities are affected by our emotions. A few years ago, companies recruited people on the basis of their cognitive skills. As they realized the importance of emotional intelligence they started testing people for their emotional intelligence along with cognitive intelligence. Cognitive skills can help you in attaining success but it will be for the short term. If you aspire to be a successful person for the long term and you desire to have a sustainable career graph, you should learn to manage your emotions. Emotions, whether good or bad, need to be handled properly. We have heard elders saying “Don’t make decisions when you are angry and don’t make promises when you are happy. Emotional intelligence plays a key role in taking decisions, managing stress, and building strong relationships as well. Teachers with emotional intelligence are considered to be a boon to society. Teachers are considered to be sculptors of the future of many young minds. The teachers with emotional balance, manage their emotions well and leave their emotions outside the class. The four key areas of emotional intelligence are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. Self-awareness is the ability to identify one’s emotions and recognize the effect of your emotions on others. This quality is beneficial for the teacher in implementing novel teaching methods. When a teacher uses a teaching method in a class, she is able to study its effect on the students and know the response the student. If the majority of students are receptive and give a good response in class, the teacher gets satisfied with the teaching method. At the same time, if the teacher finds that the students are unable to cope, it is an indication that the teaching method needs a change. Similarly, an emotionally balanced teacher is able to identify slow learners and use different strategies for them. The quality of self-management is helpful in managing emotions in adverse conditions. A teacher leaves all her emotions outside and enters the class with a positive attitude. The teacher maintains a balance between personal and professional life. She does not allow the worries of her personal or professional life to be reflected in her students. It is a well-known fact that students score more marks in the subject of their favorite teachers. Teachers who lack self-management tend to release their emotions in the form of anger in the class. Some of them may drop out of school as they lose interest and enthusiasm to study due to the behavior of the teachers. Social awareness can be classified as an ability to pick up the emotions of others and understand what is going on with them. It is an important trait that should be acquired by teachers. A child spends many hours in school. The school is considered to be their second home. A teacher’s behavior and attitude impact young minds to a great extent. An emotionally intelligent teacher is able to reach out to the students, listen to them, and settle their disputes. Along with this, the teacher can play a significant role in identifying the students with low self-esteem, with aggressive behaviors, and the ones who prefer being alone or avoid talking and mingling with others. Bullying and violence in schools are other areas of concern for students. A teacher when detects such behaviors, can contact the parents and help to deal with the problem. Students feel motivated and energized by being in contact with them. Managing emotions helps to manage stress, develop leadership qualities, and be compassionate and grateful. But the most affected individuals were children, even though they were proven to be at a lower risk of contracting the virus. With no school, no outdoor play and increased screen time, no socialization, and peer association, the outcome of an ongoing pandemic had many dire mental health effects on children. Amongst the chaos that ensued in the year gone by (almost!), there was an inspiring story of a child who showed her resilience and strength in surmounting obstacles and coming out victorious.had finally got it. In a time when we all needed some inspiration, the 4.6-Year-Old Kanika Bhagatia was busy identifying herself to be one of the 'Youngest Cuber ". Her unmatched determination and grit led her to make history. The story begins with the young lad who received a rubic cube (3x3) as a return gift in a birthday party, during the party she kept hours of fidgeting and fiddling with the cube, where she solved one colour of the cube all by herself- true achievement! . Also, the movie "Saina" was an inspiration for Kanika to win many titles for herself. Her keenness to know why Saina put the medal in her mouth in the movie was a motivation to her. It felt that the Rubik’s cube was specifically designed to outfox her. Personally, HER! The four-year-old started her training in Cubes and then continued on all the important wins in her life.
