The handloom industry is one of the largest unorganized sectors in India with a presence in almost every state diversifying as per geographies and cultures. It is a traditional century-old profession and business inherited from the rich Indian culture and history. India is one of the largest exporters of handloom in the world with footprints in more than 100 countries. It is one of the few sectors that preserves and promotes Indian culture and keeps the traditional spirit of India alive. It is commendable how the NDA Government spearheaded by the Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi is recognizing the potential and contribution of Handloom industries and celebrating 7th August as National Handloom Day. On this very day, Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Swadeshi Movement calling for a boycott of foreign and British goods and preferring Indian-made goods. Khadi clothing and handlooms got momentum due to this movement. Collective initiatives taken by the government are directed towards areas such as cluster development, availability of credit, promotion of exports, supporting environmental compliances, provisions of social welfare schemes for weavers, infrastructure development, availability of raw materials, brand building, marketing and R&D. The E-Dhaga app launched by the Government of India has been empowering the handloom entrepreneurs and traders. As of now, Handloom Industry in India employs over 4 million skilled and unskilled people with the majority being women. Assam state has maximum employment for the handloom industry. 87% of the employment in the handloom industry is from the rural areas while cities contribute 13%. After Agriculture, the handloom industry is considered to be the largest economic activity in providing livelihood to people. The handloom industry in India has a long rich tradition of outstanding craftsmanship, representing and preserving the dynamic Indian culture. Indian artists are now distinguished globally for their skilled aptitude in hand spinning, weaving and printing elegance. The operations of this industry are primarily household-based, wherein family members put in collective efforts for production. These activities are spread across thousands of towns and villages in the country and involve the transfer of skills from one generation to the next as traditional heritage. India was the second-largest exporter of handloom products in the world, with exports valued at US$ 353.9 million in 2017-18. One major problem in the handloom industry we need to solve is of the price fluctuations in the open market. Also, many consumers are now preferring e-commerce platforms for purchase, which is hampering the local producers and traders in rural and semi-rural areas. These camps would be taken up at Orphanages, Old Age Homes and government-run residential hostels. The Club is soon commencing a self-sustaining Plastic Recycling Plant next month at Vizag. The club will adopt a village in Narayanpet under the 'Gram Vikas' program of the Governor of the District. 700 bicycles will be donated to girls in the Narayanpet district very soon. Speaking on the occasion Rotarian T. Rajashekhar Reddy, Rotary District Governor said Jennifer E. Jones, a member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, has become Rotary International’s first women president for the year 2022-23. It is a groundbreaking selection which makes her the first woman to hold office in the organization’s 117-year history. She has taken over as president of Rotary International this month from July 1, 2022. Speaking further he added that Jones visited India earlier this month on his maiden visit. During her visit she hoped to break many stereotypes involving women in higher posts and said India is no longer a “help-seeking nation” but a “help-giving” one. With 1.4 million members across 200 countries, India accounts for over 50 per cent of the global annual membership growth, Rajshekhar Reddy informed. Rotary is looking at increasing the representation of women in leadership roles to 30%’. 124 countries out of 200 where Rotary is active have already achieved a 30% status of women in Rotary. Women accounted for 16% of Rotary membership in India. But it is 12.9% in Rotary District 3150, which comprises the entire Telangana, Guntur and Narasaraopet in Andhra Pradesh, she told the audience. Speaking further he added that Rotary International targets to increase the representation of women in its leadership roles across the globe to 30% by 2023. Currently, 24% of the members of the Rotary family are women which would be taken up to 30% in the next year.

The need for Separating Corneas from Other Organs in THOTA (Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act) Author: Jaswant Mehta, Founder Member &Ex President, Eye Bank Association of India (EBAI) & Chairman (Board of Advisor) & Managing Trustee, EBCRC Eye Donation: When we talk about eye donation it is mainly about the retrieval of corneas from the human body after death. The cornea is a transparent outermost layer of the eye and can be compared to the camera's lens. Light goes into the eyes through cornea-like lenses in the camera. In case of any injury to the eye due to any accident or any infection to the eye, the cornea gets damaged and the light cannot enter the eye. This condition is called corneal opacity. Thus even if the other organs of the eye like the retina etc. are intact, there will be no vision. Unlike other organs such as kidney, liver, heart etc. which have to be retrieved before the actual death takes place; the endothelium cells in the cornea remain alive up to 6 hrs after death and if retrieved within this period it is viable for transplantation. Present status of corneal opacity & eye donation: While there are several causes of blindness such as Cataract, Glaucoma or Retina detachment, the no. of people who suffer from corneal opacity are estimated to be about 8 to 10% of the total blind which works to about the 3/4 (three quarter) of the million people who can be benefited from the corneal transplant Before the pandemic which has badly affected eye donation activity, we had around 25000 corneal transplants per annum taking place in our country. To eradicate corneal blindness in a reasonable time frame of say 10 years, we need to perform at least 100000 transplants per year. To give some idea about the USA which is having 30% of our population, on average they perform 50000 transplants every year. Why separate Acts necessary for Eye donation & Corneal transplant vis-à-vis Lever, Kidney & Heart: The parameters of corneal transplant & transplant of other organs are vastly different. We need to separate the cornea from the other organs and have favourable legislation. When HOTA was being enacted in 1994, we had prepared a model corneal Grafting Act & submitted it to the parliament. Unfortunately, our lawmakers have never taken note of this & this has seriously retarded our progress. We started eye donation activity way back in the mid-fifties. But in 65 years our progress is very slow. Several countries including the USA have separated cornea from other organs & have proactive legislation & their progress has been much better than ours. To give you some idea during the 10 years between 1961 & 1971 they had a total of 20000 transplants performed. After proactive & favourable legislation was enacted in various states in the mid-70s and 80s, the number of eye donations which was a mere 6000 in 1967, touched a huge figure of 36000 in 1988. Presently in the USA, apart from performing 50000 transplants, they have surplus corneas which are sent to other countries where there is an acute need, the number being 20000 to 25000 per annum. Having cornea clubbed with other organs, has hampered eye donation activities. Till 2012 it was mandatory to have a registered medical practitioner enucleate the eyes. There were several obstacles created in HOTA including the requirement of a registered medical practitioner for retrieval of the cornea. In large numbers of eye donations, the retrieval of eyes has to be done at the home of the deceased and it was difficult to have registered medical practitioners who could spare the time of at least 2 hrs required for this process. It was only in 2012 when HOTA was replaced with THOTA, that we could manage to set this amendment. However, except for this cornea is still clubbed with other organs & we have no provision for Required Request & Presumed Consent which has helped the other countries to achieve much faster progress in eye donation & corneal transplant. In the Required Request provision, the request for consent for eye donation is mandatory to be made to the next of kin when the death takes place & it has been found that if the request is made even with little motivation so least 10% of families are agreeable for consent for eye donation. In Mumbai alone, nearly 80000 to 90000 deaths take place every year & we can retrieve 10% cornea, the number would be 8000 to 9000 eye donations. This is much larger than the present 1500 to 2000 eye donations received every year. In Presume Consent, unless there is a pre-recorded refusal, the cornea is allowed to be retrieved in all medico-legal cases where a post-mortem has to be performed. In Mumbai alone we have 7000 medico-legal cases where a post-mortem is required to be performed & even if we can retrieve 30 to 40% of cases, this also would go a long way & Bombay itself can become the hub for corneal transplant in Maharashtra. In the USA, the Required Request Law is strictly enforced in every case of death and hospital authorities have to request and if the request is not made, there is a punitive punishment. Similarly, under Presumed Consent, the eyes are allowed to be retrieved in all post-mortem cases. It must be mentioned that the removal of eyes doesn’t affect post-mortem findings & also doesn’t disfigure the face. Both these are not possible for obvious reasons in other organs. After our continuous representation & follow-up with good offices of Mr Desiraju who was the then Health Secretary, we could manage to overcome this hurdle & have trained technicians permitted to enucleate the eyes and from 2013 till now HOTA has amended and now it is THOTA. However, except for this amendment cornea is not clubbed with other organs & there is no provision of Required Request & Presumed Consent for eye donation. Having proactive & favourable legislation would not only eradicate corneal blindness in our country but will also enable us to send corneas to several countries such as our neighbouring countries Bangladesh, Malaysia & several countries in Africa etc. where there is an acute shortage and will make India a leader in eye donation & corneal transplant in the world.

In world class universities, education, research, innovation and entrepreneurship integrate seamlessly together. Education disseminates known knowledge. Research creates new knowledge. Innovation converts knowledge into wealth and social good. However, for innovation to move from mere ideas to actual impact in the society, we need entrepreneurship. Building Engineers for our Future In order to become topmost ranking University producing world class engineers, we must build both the minds as well as mindsets of the engineering graduates, who will build our future.Much has been written about the mind of an engineer. For an engineer, two things are important. The first deals with learning habits of mind. That includes curiosity, open-mindedness, resourcefulness, reflection, resilience, ethical approach, and cooperation and collaboration. Then there are engineering habits of mind. They include visualising, analysing, improving, adapting, systems thinking, problem finding and finally creative problem-solving.All universities must develop amongst our students both the learning habits of mind and engineering habits of mind. A leading education expert has said that two thirds of the senior school going students today will end up in jobs that do not exist today. If that is indeed the case, then how do we impart skills for future jobs, which we don’t even know what they are going to be. "Her courage was her CROWN and she wore like a QUEEN" Yes, I believe in this saying cause it's courage in yourself which makes you believe in yourself and move forward to face the challenges. What the world sees is the sugar-coated version of a person's life but the journey of the person is no less than a roller-coaster ride. The word " Fashion world" is so classy and trendy but darling it's not so simple as we think. Today would like the share my journey from a simple non-fashionable woman who never had any sense of fashion to winning the woman Mrs.universe lovely title at the 44th world final Mrs.universe. Born and brought in Mangalore the coastal land of Karnataka where it has given India many international pageantry winners. Completed education in accounting and management field and always interested in sports. Always had a dream of representing my country at the international level but never happened. Life went on as all the girls got married and got a baby end of careers and dreams but for me, the fairy tale started after my child's birth. I gained a lot of weight after delivery and my extended family started calling me by so many names fatso, daitya, rakshasi, Ghar kana sab khatam hogaya Sirf iskelye and so on and on. Faced a lot of humiliation, and insults and even went through depression but today if am standing it's the support and encouragement of my son. The only person who trusted me believed in me and changed me into who I am today. The 2year old made sure I did my workouts every day and even accompanied me to the fitness class and who worked out with me. After that did my certified fitness training courses and got certified. After this comes a new chapter in life "The Pageantry World" where I did my first debut and won the title of Mrs.confident Pune pride and then was not look back after that participated in ME AND MOM with my little one and we won the show with a lot of appreciation and even today my mentors give my example when they train new models. Then it went winner Mrs India and then came another turning point during the covid time the MRS.UNIVERSE. Yes it's exciting right even I felt the same happiness but back in my mind, it was like why me. Discussed with my husband and then he was like if you want to then go for it. He even said it's a rare opportunity to grab it. I said yes and then again a new journey started. It was not less than war yes I fought with myself financially, mentally, and emotionally everything and the only person who saw all my phases and who constantly supported me was my son my hero. I had to pay a huge amount and during covid times everyone faced financial problems so do I. But my director or the company didn't wait or understand me I was stuck all alone with my son and was not able to contact my husband cause he was stuck in lockdown but they never understood they only wanted me to pay the fee. I still remember my little one wiping my tears and giving all his 5 piggy banks and saying Mumma gives this money don't cry you're my super strong Mumma. Somehow managed and cleared everything and started working hard from fitness to grooming myself and proudly and confidently represented my country with the title Mrs.universe Central Pacific Asia. When the big day arrives was super excited about the event started with shopping packing and then comes another hurdle my son was hospitalized, my husband had to travel in an emergency, and the national costume was not ready till the eve of travelling and a few of my gowns. The so-called designers who claim them to be the top most after paying a huge amount and a balance of 10000 was pending and she called the dress back which she sent at night 2p.m even after requesting her for 2days of time to clear that amount as I was going through a lot of things but finally made give in written documents that will pay her at 2 pm that day then she gave the dress even after giving her continue business since years. Finally travelled to my dream destination and reached Seoul South Korea where we had to get done with the covid test and unfortunately my report was intermediate. I would like to quote " Indians are the real enemy of Indians" Yes u heard it right a group of Indians from the competition went and pleaded with the organizers to remove me from the competition and mentally and emotionally who troubled me and on the other side the other countries delegated stood with said you're fine just get the test done again and ur fine. And all thanks to God my second test report was negative then I was back with a bang where I performed every level with courage and confidence and reached the finale and came back home proudly with the title "MRS.UNIVERSE LOVELY ". Even today people say it's not possible to handle everything at the same time wrong if want to achieve no one can stop you. From handling family, national and international fitness batches, job, attending practices, studies of my child, his skating classes and his competition, and doing all the household single-handed and even grooming the new budding model to Mrs.universe it's all my hard work and the support of my family and friends and of course trolls of haters for what am standing today. My Journey as a YouTuber started with a dream to become famous and a liking for exploring new places and food. I always had this dream of becoming a famous figure in the world and was waiting for someone to push me in the right field. That’s where God pushed me to start making YouTube Videos and fulfilling my dream. One day suddenly my phone was ringing continuously, I immediately picked up my phone and saw the increasing numbers of Subscribers adding to my channel as one of my videos went Viral. And that’s where I started this journey of becoming a YouTuber. In the initial stage, I was very shy about making the videos going in public where all eyes would be on me, however, with the support of my family and friends I was able to overcome this fear. I think I'm not perfect but I'm improving day by day, with the feedback of my subscribers and also with the feedback of my family and friends. Talking about my career, I'm an accountant in an IT firm and if you ask how would I balance between both of them is a little difficult as I would not compromise on the quality of work I deliver at my office and also in the videos I post every week because I know any compromise in any of the one will not let me sleep. So for this, I have to complete a video I have to make sure that I give myself 200% at the office and then if I get any time after office I will go for making a video. Weekends are the time when I give almost a day to shoot and Sunday to edit. Also, I have to make sure that I give time to my family as they are the ones who have supported me in my difficult time. I have also been given so many auditions to become an actor in my life but unfortunately, I did not get success in them. I have had many setbacks in life personally and also professionally, I have e many ups and downs in life. However, I have also got my teaching bythat my father and mother that I should not stop and keep moving. There was a day when I choose to quit my studies but my father and mother gave me the courage to move ahead and supported me in every way in my life. Also, when I started making YouTube videos some people told me to stop making videos, as per them this is not an age to do all this stuff, but what I think is there is no age to pursue your dream. I'm close to 1000 subscribers, and these subscribers are my supporters who want me to do good in life and want my dream to be fulfilled. For Becoming a YouTuber you should not fear making and doing what you like. When you make a video where you think that you have given 200%, I'm sure that video will do good. Not in video but in any field if give your best in anything you will get good results. You should be consistent if you want to become a YouTuber, that will show the audience you are interested to improve and make videos. You have to get out of the ‘BhedChal’ to follow others and listen to your inner self and start doing what makes you feel happy. There were no instances where I was discouraged from making videos as I don’t want to make money or get views, I just want to do what I like and do what I want in life, ultimately you will get all the other things followed behind you. Try not to copy, make your stuff and let others know that you are different. Always keep on experimenting with the content, that will make you more strong and give you experiences of what to make and what not to make. In whatever one does; one seeks some form of recognition or reward for the work done. It acts as a fuel that fires motivation and drives to carry on. Rewards and recognitions come in many forms and faces and different things motivate different people. This has often made me wonder what is it that motivates me, and fuels my fire to carry on with what I have set out to do – is it money, awards or recognition by peers/community? Well, it is all of these but none of them. I realised what matters most to me is the feedback I receive from the people I interact with, through my training, coaching, mentoring and writing. The sense of fulfilment that comes from knowing that you have touched even a single life to leave a lasting impression is matchless. And I count myself blessed in this regard because in course of my professional journey I have received so much love and respect, that it has kept me going. Recently, I was again stunned by how small things can turn out to be so important for people you don’t even know. For my article on Cheating, I received some very heartfelt comments, some of which I would like to share with you. These words reinforce my belief that through my work, I must give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves. Most of my writing is inspired by my own experiences and sometimes, it is excruciating to lay bare your life, your emotions, your trials and tribulations in front of the whole world, but if it gives hope even to a single person, gives strength to carry on, then the pain is worth it. I am fortunate that the nature of my work allows me to have an impact on people, however, one does not need to be professionally qualified to make a difference in the lives of people around them. What an irony it is indeed? On 24th of July, we celebrated and am flooded by messages on all platforms on a #mindful day for "The Parents Day". True it is. Reminiscing... The diversity in perception is an amazing gift we possess and also I have the experience of sharing another gift, the fact that perception changes with time too! It's true for every generation, in their ways the kids and young minds develop, evolve and grow. Experiencing life while growing up is a planned affair nowadays, we put it up on our calendars, make a to-do list, ask experts and gather information and compare ...is this symptomatic behaviour shown by my kid... Humm...the #SWOTculture of each parent has become the new normal today. The relieved sigh... or the OMG what to do now is the two-way street which we venture into every week. This is happening right now, with the board results being declared for the Xth and XIIth. I saw a parent rush to school, waiting impatiently with a bouquet to ask the school to allow her an earlier leave, so they can go and celebrate her 98.4% I also saw a mom bragging about how she sat with her kid and made a goal-setting vision board and now her kid has scored 97% I came across another kid who had scored 89% and is under severe depression with suicidal tendencies. Please, am not saying it's not to be done or to be done, am in a neutral position here... I took my daughter for a celebration treat to their favourite pizza place to celebrate her 9 percentile too. Honestly, it's been a good year, yet we had our pulse raising arguments and differences on learning methodology...and some more too. And as this academic year ends, paving its way to the new chapter in our kid's lives, one thing as a mother, an expert in learning solutions and a specialist in emotional transformations - all three agree with is #experiential #living and no way other than hands-on learning is the pre-requisite. Growing up, the experience of childhood was completely different. Earlier, resources were just a walk away and parents were much more connected to the roots and culture. The community was much more involved in the upbringing of a child, my neighbours had a watchful eye and went out to make us feel like the whole camp was just the extended family. I got scolded for not being careful and getting, while the uncles and aunts around did the first-aid and bandaid. When we felt hungry we just walked into any house and said we were hungry, take a cup and ask for sugar, The only movie that streamed on Sunday evenings, was a community affair, kids and parents came bearing their share for a movie bing watch as there was one TV unit in our neighbour's house. Any festival, we kids celebrated with everyone gathering together to celebrate and pamper the “baccha party” (aka I think this term evolved when we were kids) We could just climb up trees and dress in a fairy dress on the same day and be confident of the difference in our walk all the same. We had to make our way to prove our leadership on the grounds, even if we were not, we still played and had fun. The leader looked after the ones who were struggling just the same, encouraging more, and supporting the push to learn and perform. Those were the days we learned resilience, confidence, determination, teamwork, community spirit and many more just like that on the playground. Today we learn it via a course and most of it is online. We need to explore the natural curve of learning and gather enough courage to take the muddy path which may be the one way to a creative streak, innovative blast and expressive communication, making it a striving untreated path to the mountain peak. And then later on they revealed their HIV status. Later on, we met their Families. Few of them were less than 4 years to the ones who were 60 years old. And then we met the whole Community of HIV+ orphans and more HIV Families. There are many stories of every individual. Many of them didn't even know that when they got affected. By seeing them and knowing them we decided to begin our Revolutionary Moment. And here we are today! We work for the Social cause and on Awareness Camps for HIV on Global Level For Free. We have visited Schools, Colleges, Societies, Offices, and Villages to aware people of the Retrovirus – AIDS. We have held – HIV Awareness Camps (Majorly Working on HIV, Sex Workers, Transgenders). Future Plans We are Attempting a World Record in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
