  • That's how I created my own storyboard - Richa Khandelwal Bhat

It was the winter of 2006, sitting alone in my one-bedroom apartment on a chilly winter morning, I was reminiscing. It had been a year since my arrival in Canada. With the freezing weather outside, surrounded by the white walls of my room, I felt lost and alone as I thought about what I was doing with my career. Having come from Delhi, where I worked as a news anchor, a prime-time bulletin reader and a reporter, I feared that my career could be coming to a standstill. In the hope of kick starting my career in Canada, I had applied to several jobs, only to not receive even a single reply to my applications. I had no local education or job experience for someone to offer me a job in the field of journalism. Standing in the kitchen that day, with no opportunity knocking my door, I decided to stop waiting and create an opportunity for myself. At that very moment, Keshava Productions was born! A little while later, we moved to New York with our baby and there the baby-steps in forming and registering this company were taken. Today we are at a place where we are working on creating opportunity for hundreds of people across the country in media related projects. My dream has now grown. The dream is to give employment opportunities to thousands of people in the field of arts and entertainment. We want to reach out to the remote corners of the country where there are many talented people who do not have an opportunity to showcase their talents – a feeling I am familiar with. My husband, Ullasakrishna Bhat and I decided to start Narayana’s Artnirbhar Bharat Foundation, a Social Enterprise, with the purpose of giving these talented people an opportunity. My Parents have been partners in our business and the guiding light for us all through. Our vision is to be a major change-maker in the entertainment industry. We want to take the entertainment business to the people in the remote villages of the country so that they can explore their talent and make a living from it without having to move to the major cities to find work. During the pandemic induced lock-down, I did not let the negativity outside affect me. Instead, I shut myself in and started writing, recreating my storyboard for my own life and my business. The results of the streamlining of thoughts and the creative work during this period are now manifesting in a beautiful manner. I want to put all my knowledge and learning from my past, be it my experience in journalism or working internationally for a production house, into just one thing – Make India Artnirbhar! I am putting all my efforts in finding ways to provide income opportunities for artists across the remote areas of the country and help them become self-reliant through their art. The inspiration for this vision came from my trips to Badrinath that gave me an opportunity to meet countless selfless artists who lived for things greater than themselves. Surviving on a monthly salary lesser than an average uptown teenager’s pocket money, I observed that these shining stars led happier lives than we ever could. I want to create a platform to bring these talents to the national and international stage through a business model that is self-sustaining. Currently being assisted by 51 Management Interns from the vastly reputed IMT Ghaziabad, we now have a team member in almost every nook and corner of our glorious motherland. I am also grooming my daughter to take over our children’s unit called as Creative Shaala where we are training kids to become future leaders of tomorrow. Every day, I attempt to be a selfless individual, fulfilling Lord Narayana’s mission on this planet. And to me, there truly is no better honor than that: leaving this world a little bit better than it was when we arrived. • "There is no one else who will understand a woman better than a woman herself," says Tanvi Dogra

On International Women's Day, Swati, aka Tanvi Dogra from &TV's Santoshi Maa Sunaye Vrat Kathayein, talks about what it takes to be a woman, the women she admires and about portraying a strong woman character. Here are excerpts from a candid conversation with her: 1. What does International Women's Day theme on 'Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world' mean to you? One lesson that all of us have learnt from COVID-19 was that no matter the consequence, everyone was affected by it in one way or the other. The social and economic impacts of COVID-19 were harsher on women than men, with the increased burden of unpaid care disproportionately carried by women. Among other factors, it also impacted women's employment. The increased responsibilities crammed women physically, mentally, financially and emotionally. As we move into the recovery mode, a shift in gender-roles attitudes with more support and opportunities for women is more crucial than ever. 2.Who is the most inspiring person (in a leadership position and the entertainment industry) to you, and why? I have always looked up to Gracy Singh, who also happens to be my co-actor in &TV's Santoshi Maa Sunaye Vrat Kathayein. She is truly a guiding inspiration in her acting skills and just the way she carries herself. I admire the dedication that she puts into her work. Over the past year, I have learnt plentiful from her. She holds such a positive aura around herself, and I feel blessed to have received the chance to work with her. 3.For the past year, we have been battling the pandemic situation in the country. How have you managed to keep up with your work at a time when recession and economic slowdown hit the world? The pandemic has been a challenging time for all. My father, who hails from Chandigarh, is a die-hard Punjabi and loves food. Cooking has always been his passion. Due to my tight shooting schedules earlier, I never got time to help my father in the kitchen, but I utilized the lockdown time to help and spend more time with him. Apart from this, I also used this time to engage in and learn new things. 4.What do you think is the biggest issue today facing women of your age, especially the working women having to find a work-life balance? I feel that women are emotionally vulnerable and often focus more on caring for others than for themselves. A woman must take a step back and see things with a clearer perspective regarding their professional or personal life. Achieving a work-life balance is crucial. As women, we often blur those lines between work and our lives to prove to others of our caliber. With time, we have moved towards a progressive world who understands the needs of a woman of today's age. Therefore I believe being assertive is a quality much needed. 5.Your character has struck a chord with the viewers. What, according to you, is the USP of this role/character? Swati is an ardent devotee of Santoshi Maa (Gracy Singh) and a devoted and loving wife to her husband, Indresh (Ashish Kadian). She is a do-gooder and thinks for everyone than for herself. She is sincere, honest, compassionate and kind. Under Santoshi Maa's continuous guidance and support, along with her undying devotion, Swati overcomes various obstacles in her life. The quality of perseverance, patience and dedication navigates Swati through challenging situations in life, setting an example for viewers to instill these qualities to overcome various issues in their day to day lives. 6.What does it mean to be a woman, according to you? In my opinion, a woman brings in a lot of clarity during times when situations are unclear. She is someone who nurtures those around her with the utmost care and unconditional love. Being a woman is a feeling like none other. They define perfection, flexibility, and calm and can face testing times with courage and determination. 7.One message for all the young girls and women you would like to give? Firstly, I would like to convey a warm Happy Women's Day to all the women out there! Treat yourself to lots of love and find your inner happiness first before anything else. Allow your intuition to get you going and believe that nothing is impossible, provided you have faith and courage. To all the young girls, I ask you to be true to yourself and be there for each other in times of need. There is no one else who will understand a woman better than a woman herself.

  • “Extensive research & development has revolutionized our adhesive tapes", Sarika Rahul Rajgaria

Mumbai, March 2021: Adhesive tapes can be easily found in the stationary of a school kid to a skilled craftsman. Their easy application and reliable bond make it possible to stick an object on the surface an easy task. But we fail to realize that our standard adhesive tapes have pretty much changed in the past decade. They are no longer a solution for temporary bonding as in today's time, small articles such as a car’s batch of honor to the glass panels of a skyscraper are all stuck using these strong tapes. The R&D has made it possible for these tapes to withstand all the challenges like temperature, weather conditions, and water. These tapes are designed in such a way that their bonding keeps getting stronger with time. When asked Mrs. Sarika Rahul Rajgaria, Director of sales, Pentagon Tapes. He mentioned, “Tapes are one of the most underestimated tools in a person's toolbox, it has the potential to provide a strong and lasting bond without being concerned about it physically injuring you. A few decades ago, adhesive tapes were just used for temporary application but extensive research and development has revolutionized our adhesive tapes. There are various types of tapes made just for a specific task. For instance, there are Frame Mounting tapes that are strong enough to stick to advisable surfaces and when you remove them to change the photo, they do not leave any residue on the walls. Then there are mirror mounting tapes which on the other hand are tape for a permanent solution as when you fix the mirror with the tapes, the bond gets stronger and stronger with time. This makes it super easy for any naïve person to bond their object without the need of using tools like a hammer and nail.”

Women Who Chose to Challenge Science is often considered a male-dominated field. But, here is our boundary-breaking women in science, who has made remarkable contributions to Indian & global Science. Dr Jaya Nagaraja, Chief Scientist at MC, holds many hats. She is a PhD. holder from the University of Berne, a post-doctoral position at Ludwig institute of cancer research, Berne; Research Associate from the University of Rochester, New York; Research Scientist- at IGBMC, Strasbourg; Scientist- Astra Zeneca, Project lead – Monsanto; She worked on Arabidopsis Curation & literature mining in Bangalore. She says, “A few years ago, when I started out, science was a male-dominated area. But today women are breaking barriers and creating their own unique identity and taking charge. For more women to venture into the world of science and technology, it is important we provide them with the right support systems and infrastructure. You need an organization or a leader who has faith in you to deliver good science. It is also important for women to support and nurture each other to grow. I feel proud that I have groomed so many young scientists who have grown into leadership roles and contributed to world science. The pandemic has once again proved that women are capable of much more. They are wearing multiple hats at the same time and at the same place. Today, there is a thin line between your workspace and home. But, they have beautifully accomplished the tasks, met deadlines.” Ms Krishna K., Director - Sales & Marketing at MC, holds Masters in Business Administration, (International Business) from IIM Indore. She is one of the very few women in this country who holds a leadership role in her early thirties. She says, “I often find people wearing a flabbergasted look when I tell them that I am in a leadership role in my early thirties. But, when you think deeper, it all has to do with the perceptions. We always imagine a man in such a position and rarely a woman. Hard work, perseverance, coupled with an encouraging and nurturing environment can lead any woman into the leadership team. Every woman can achieve what they aim for, all they need is the focus, passion, and unnerving determination to fight back.”
