  • Ashreeta Mohanty Speaks on Empowerment of Women is progress for all

Economic development and gender equality go hand-in-hand. Societies with greater gender equality not only offer better socio-economic opportunities for women, but also tend to grow faster and more equitably It is needless to say that education forms the foundation for empowering women, especially in a country like India. As had been most aptly said educating a woman means educating an entire family. The place of women in society is a critical factor in judging the success of any civilization. Women are becoming more noticeable and prominent in the professional as well as the public spheres. Times are changing. Although very slowly, but they indeed are shifting in favour of women. By empowering women and girls, we can address poverty, insecurity, and inequality, the greatest challenges of this century. When women have equal rights in the workplace and the economy, growth and development are stronger. Women are the majority of the world’s poor, but they spend most of their income on their children and families. By addressing their needs, we can slash extreme poverty worldwide. So, gender equality is not only the right thing to do, but it’s also the smart thing to do. No country in the world has achieved gender equality, and women and girls still face outrageous discrimination and violations of their human rights. Equal pay is still not a reality, and 128 countries still have at least one legal difference in how men and women are treated. Violence against women and girls affects one in three women globally, and millions still do not have fundamental sexual and reproductive health and rights. As we March towards celebrating the International Women's Day 2024, let us build on the lessons learned and make bigger and bolder progress as we work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. We can no longer afford to hold back half the world’s population. The upcoming decade has to be different for every woman and girl in the world. She must feel Safe and Secure from gender-based violence. She must feel her rights are respected. She should be empowered through equal access to education, resources and equal opportunities for full participation and leadership. Because equality for women is progress for all! I want to conclude with this strong quotes on Women by G.D. Anderson- “Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong, it’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.”

  • In conversation with Shrishti Jaiswal: A Fashion Force with Global Reach

    1. Introduction and Background: a. Can you share with us your journey into the fashion, design, and education industries? From a young age, I've been drawn to creative expression. Sketching, painting, and experimenting with fashion design were my passions. Alongside my artistic pursuits, I was exposed to the business side of fashion through my parents. This unique blend of creative and business understanding fueled my desire to forge a unique career path. I pursued fashion design, embracing the limitless possibilities of creativity within the fashion industry. However, upon graduation, I yearned for a role that transcended the limitations of designing specific garments. I envisioned a career that offered daily challenges and intellectual stimulation. After a period of refining my skills, I landed my dream job as a faculty at a renowned design school in Bangalore. Surrounded by students and inspiring colleagues, I embarked on a journey of continuous learning, growth, and teaching, enriching both my own life and the lives of my students. b. How did your academic experience at Nottingham Trend University shape your creative vision and influence your career path? My initial exposure to fashion was through childhood art classes, but pursuing a professional Fashion Design education was a revelation. The diverse subjects, internships, competitions, and constant learning thirst plunged me into the real world of fashion. Initially, attending fashion weeks felt like a major accomplishment, but gradually, I immersed myself deeper. This journey opened my eyes to the various facets of the industry, from the distinction between shopping and market sourcing to the intricate differences between colouring and rendering or tailoring and draping/pattern making. As I delved into different categories, sustainability captured my heart. I made a conscious choice to dedicate my career to sensible and responsible practices within this domain. 2. Multifaceted Roles: a. As a Style Guru & Event Maestro, how do you approach planning and executing events, especially in international collaborations? Navigating the world of international events requires careful strategy and understanding of cultural nuances. The Indian market operates with a unique dynamism compared to the more structured approach I encounter in Europe. While European professionalism and strict work schedules have their advantages, challenges arise due to time zone differences and a less flexible work culture. Executing events across borders hinges on finding reliable collaborators, and the cost of establishing connections can be significant. European professionals are highly focused on both compensation and adhering to work-life boundaries. This contrasts with the more adaptable – and sometimes self-sacrificing – nature of work relationships commonly experienced in India. 3. Social Media and Marketing: a. How do you leverage your extensive network and communication expertise to build brands and connect businesses with their target audience? Open mind & clear communication: Connect with others by understanding and respecting their perspectives. Honesty & follow-through: Build trust by saying what you mean and doing what you say. Versatility is king: Develop a diverse skill set to tackle challenges from different angles. 4. Operations and Sustainability: a. Your role as an Operations Whiz involves managing complex projects. How do you ensure smooth operations, especially in the dynamic field of fashion and design? The engine driving smooth operations is a multifaceted one, fueled by experience, meticulous planning, and the synergy of a skilled team. However, the true catalyst lies in individual motivation and an unwavering dedication to excellence. When each member possesses the zest to not just complete tasks, but to do so exceptionally well, that's when operations truly flourish. b. Sustainability is a core value for you. Could you elaborate on your advocacy for sustainable practices in the fashion industry and how it influences your work? Sustainability is about more than grand gestures – it's about conscious daily practices that ripple outwards. We need a radical shift in the fashion industry, starting with how we treat waste. Polluted waterways from untreated textile runoff are a global crisis demanding urgent solutions." "My passion for sustainability is reflected in my choices, both big and small. I experiment with upcycled materials, like the woven button garment I created in college. I prioritize longevity in my own wardrobe, then donate pieces to extend their life. I prefer natural fibres, support local artisans, and value-conscious consumption – the Indian concept of 'Jugaad' is a guiding principle for creating a better world for future generations 5. Early Influences: a. In what ways do your roots in Delhi and your current base in Bangalore contribute to your creative process and inspirations? My roots are in Delhi, a city known for its diverse and vibrant fashion culture. This instilled in me a deep appreciation for style, etiquette, and access to the best brands and markets. In contrast, Bangalore – a city rich in cultural heritage – has experienced a recent fashion boom. Its corporate environment has afforded me unique opportunities to design uniforms, ramp collections, and promotional pieces for major brands. Bangalore's rapid growth as a fashion-forward hub is inspiring – likely fueled by its melting pot of residents from across India. 6. Academic Contributions and Sustainable Practices: a. Your commitment to sustainability is reflected in your academic contributions. Could you share instances where your students have won awards for their sustainable practices? I believe in fuelling student innovation that pushes the boundaries of sustainable design. One of my students transformed Agave, a common but often unused plant, into a stunning fashion collection. Others have revolutionized menswear by creating original fabrics from banana and bamboo fibres, earning recognition from the Indian government. Another student even drew inspiration from temple architecture while thoughtfully incorporating sustainable materials like abandoned faux leather and got featured in Bangalore’s renowned brand’s jewellery campaign. b. How do you promote a more responsible approach to fashion, advocating repair over replacement? My personal style reflects my commitment to sustainability and resourcefulness. I believe in repeating outfits with creative styling to suit different occasions. Classic pieces form the foundation of my wardrobe, ensuring versatility and longevity. I even incorporate vintage finds, like my mother's stylish garments, drawing inspiration from the past without compromising on contemporary appeal. Through mindful wear and tear, I extend the life of my clothes – transitioning them from social events to work, then casual wear, before finding new homes through donation. This approach allows me to express my personal style while minimizing waste. 7. Passion and Dedication: a. What drives your passion and dedication in the fashion industry, and how do you inspire others with your self-motivated spirit? While I may not have pursued traditional paths like medicine, engineering, or even space exploration, the creative field is where my true passion lies. It's not the glamour that attracts me; it's the intrinsic process of design, the interaction with people, and the challenge of solving problems with creativity. This self-motivation, I believe, is partly innate and partly nurtured by strong family values. My father, a man of great discipline, instilled in me the importance of routine and mindful action. Despite managing two jobs and household responsibilities, I find myself working over 18 hours daily. But it's not a burden; it's a testament to the joy I find in creative pursuits. Like many, I have separate professional and personal lives, but for me, events and content creation are more like hobbies, offering an additional outlet for creative expression, without ever feeling overwhelming. b. How do you approach continuous learning and growth, making yourself a valuable asset in various projects? Experience and dedication form the foundation of my work. It's true, mistakes happen, but I'm committed to growth and finding the best solutions. Continuous learning fuels my ambition and drives me forward. The difference between myself and those who stagnate is simple - they settle for the status quo, while I constantly seek improvement and new challenges. It's this drive that has propelled my career forward 8. Global Perspective: a. Having a global reach, how do you navigate and adapt to diverse fashion landscapes and trends across different regions? My early career in fashion taught me a valuable lesson about embracing diversity and individual identity. During a shoot in London, I encountered a model whose unique features couldn't be completely concealed through makeup. The agency's response, 'you must accept individual identity,' resonated deeply. It challenged me to move beyond traditional beauty standards and appreciate the uniqueness that defines each person." "This experience sparked a fascination with cultural exchange and how we integrate various aspects of our identity. Recently, I was inspired by a Mexican chef who, upon arriving in India, embraced local culture by wearing Jhumkis alongside her uniform. Likewise, I often pick up a beret during visits to Paris, finding joy in embodying different cultural elements." "Ultimately, embracing personal expression and celebrating diversity strengthens our global community. We can all coexist peacefully by respecting individual choices and fostering confidence in our unique identities. 9. Closing Thoughts: a. As a final reflection, what advice would you give to aspiring fashion entrepreneurs and designers looking to make an impact in the industry? Don't be fooled by the runway's dazzling facade. The world of fashion is a tapestry woven with dedication, sacrifice, and a diverse blend of skills – from the visionary designer to the strategic marketer. While challenges are inevitable, they become stepping stones when fueled by genuine passion. Witnessing the countless individuals behind the scenes, pushing their limits and pouring their hearts into every creation, reminds me that success doesn't happen overnight. It requires investing time and energy to gain experience, honing your talents, and embracing the journey. Remember, every struggle is a lesson, every hurdle a chance to learn and grow. And when your heart truly resonates with what you do, the burdens transform into a source of pride and satisfaction. So, if you're considering a career in fashion, approach it with open eyes and a determined spirit. The road may not be easy, but the rewards of creativity, self-expression, and contributing to a dynamic industry are truly empowering. 10. Future Plans: a. What are your plans and aspirations in the ever-evolving world of fashion, design, and education? I don’t plan my year, I just go with the flow. you can follow me on this Insta handle : https://www.instagram.com/shrishtijaiswal92?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw==

  • Unveiling the Educational Odyssey: Megha Chandvankar's 35-Year Journey and the Birth of Sepals

Greetings to the world of education! I am Megha Chandvankar, a dedicated teacher with a rich tapestry of 35 years in the realm of teaching. My journey has afforded me the rare opportunity to teach across all grades, from the nurturing Pre-Primary stages to the pivotal 10th grade. Renowned for infusing innovation and the latest teaching techniques into my classrooms, my pedagogical approach is synonymous with interactivity, participation, and engagement. Stepping into roles of leadership, I have served as a Principal in diverse schools, where my leadership style was characterized by encouragement and positivity. Putting my team first, I firmly believed in leading from behind, fostering an environment where collective growth took precedence. However, my true passion reaches its zenith when I am conducting training sessions for fellow educators. In the midst of my educational odyssey, I encountered a transformative quote by Haim Ginott that resonated deeply within me: "I am a survivor of a concentration camp... So, I am suspicious of education. My request is this: Help your children become human." This poignant statement became a catalyst, illuminating the profound responsibility teachers bear—the power to shape the lives of the future generation. This revelation propelled me to redefine my role as a teacher, realizing that it goes beyond the impartation of subject matter; it is about shaping every facet of a child's personality. This paradigm shift led me to become a teacher trainer, driven by the belief that a teacher's attitude is the linchpin for effective education. My commitment extends beyond imparting skills; it encompasses molding attitudes that foster a conducive learning environment. Over the past 20+ years, I have had the privilege of training over 1000 teachers who share in this vision. My mission is clear—to cultivate a community of educators who make a learner's journey relevant to real life, utilizing diverse approaches that delve deep into their understanding. The ultimate goal is to nurture able and independent learners who are equipped for the challenges of the future. My vision extends beyond the classroom walls, aspiring to create passionate teachers who choose this noble profession with the aim of developing future adults into well-balanced, sensitive, and responsible global citizens. In pursuit of this vision, I recently embarked on a new venture—Sepals. This space is dedicated to realizing these objectives through programs designed with a practical approach, allowing teachers to internalize techniques and apply them in their unique ways. Sepals is not just a venture; it is a testament to the unwavering commitment to creating an educational landscape that transcends traditional boundaries. As we embark on this journey, testimonials from those who have experienced the transformative power of these programs will undoubtedly become the voices that echo the success of this endeavor. • Mayaa SH - Invest In Women, Accelerate Progress.

Any government must focus on four main areas: promoting women's leadership and political participation, empowering women economically, ending violence against women, and supporting women's full and equal participation in peace processes and security efforts. Women should get more support from the family, so that they can reach the highest position in their career without any hindrance. It is only by empowerment of women, families will become strong and only strong families will create a strong society and a strong nation. The purpose for empowering women is to Promote social welfare. Helping women from all backgrounds does overcome the individual challenges they are facing. Advocacy for social and economic justice for all women of diverse communities is imperative in order to institutionalise to empower women holistically. This will lead to embodying the social work code of ethics. Through holistic and targeted initiatives, the government has to address important sectors such as education, healthcare, political representation, economic instability and gender equality for championing equal rights of women all across the globe. The obvious needs no proof that such initiatives are quintessential for any economy.aiming for women and men to work together as equal partners. Honoring both women and girls, together with men and boys, as agents of change for the benefit of all humanity lays the foundation of a healthy society. Working towards the elimination of violence and discrimination against women and girls is of utmost importance. Women empowerment is to enable them to achieve their real rights in the society. It has such power that it can change a lot in the society and country. She can deal with any problem in the society better or equal like men. Women's education leads to women's empowerment. This low literacy rate has a huge impact on women's lives, as well as their families lives and the country's economic progress. Investments in women’s health and education boost economic development. Investment in women’s education and health, and attention to their employment opportunities and empowerment, pays big dividends in terms of economic development. It develops the quality of their lives and leads to social benefits to individuals and society. Female education raises the growth and creativity and encourages entrepreneurship and technical advances. It also plays an important role in economic and social development and improving income allocation. The preamble of the Indian Constitution speaks about gender equality as a fundamental right of women and a fundamental duty of the state. The state had been empowered to take measures to achieve positive results in this regard. The reality however is that even after seventy-five years of independence, women have to struggle hard to fight for their rights in every sector. Women’s empowerment is a continuous process and does not have an end point or an outcome that can be measured. Patriarchy needs a revisit with reference to the dominance of males, be it in a small household or society. It encourages the feeling of being in power, which results in domestic violence in families and rape and eve-teasing in society. Feminism is not a war between men and women. It is about looking at the archaic doctrines related to the notional patriachy. It is about equal rights of both men and women. A society in which men have authority over women in all aspects; from politics to morals to economics and even the actions of women can never be progressive in the mindset first. For centuries, the patriarchal system has determined what is right from wrong, what can be done and said, and where women go and how they act.Any form of violence must also end .The COVID-19 pandemic, conflicts and climate change have exacerbated the risks for this violence and generated new threats, amplifying the vulnerability of women and girls. Violence prevents women from experiencing or accessing the benefits of development by restricting their ability to act or move freely. Violence against women is an obstruction to poverty alleviation programs as it impedes equitable distribution of resources. Inspite of consistent efforts and significant strides made in recent years, gender inequality persists as a pervasive issue in many regions worldwide. Women still encounter discrimination in the workplace, unequal pay, and restricted access to education and healthcare. The feminist movement serves a crucial purpose in addressing these concerns and establishing a more equitable society.Feminism continues to be a crucial aspect of our lives owing to centuries of entrenched patriarchy and misogyny. This is important to put an end to sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression and to achieve full gender equality in law and in practice. Thereby, it is necessary to work towards prioritizing the political, economic, and cultural equality of women across every society. About the Author Mayaa SH is an Indian authoress who gained nationwide recognition for her poem, "The Candle In The Wind" (2021). She is also an active writer of absolute realistic issues, podcaster and an avid activist for championing rights of women at all levels. Mayaa's one of the books "Swayam" - was greeted by unprecedented positive attention from critics, pundits and the media alike for highlighting the power of exponential growth mindset. Though the book is a work of realistic literature, Mayaa took inspiration from her deep observation of human psychology when crafting the ideology behind inking deep thoughts in the self help book. Mayaa SH has always asserted and indicated a double exploitation of women in Indian society, where they are marginalized racially and also on the basis of gender. She has always laid narratives on advocating for the intellectual power of women. She says if we give women a life full of freedom, she can provide us with the most altruistic masterwork if her intellect. Most of Mayaa's writings and work is essentially directed towards highlighting that it is a myth that women cannot stand for their convictions in life inspite of any odds. Most of her writings are carefully placed to lay thought provoking assertions on how the best perspectives to success can be introspected through the eyes of a woman alongwith the sensibility of being politically correct. This, most of Mayaa's work brings out before the readers the requirement of the state of fair sexes in a specific social milieu and gender equality. Mayaa has undertaken to change the radical mindset of many even in the 21st century on the development of women's liberation which in India has prompted the scrutinizing of the conspicuous old man centric control or the patriarchal norms to be upheld always. The women of today won't be mannequins in the hands of men. Thus; the picture of women has experienced a radical change. As an Indian female essayist many including Mayaa have made a progress to write extensively on from the conventional depictions of suffering benevolent women to delineation of their inward life and unobtrusive relational relationships. The clashing enthusiasm of man and woman in the general public because of self-affirming women, who are immersed in intense look for their personality, is the lobby characteristic of present day depiction of female characters. Mayaa SH has her own supposition on society and has effectively made an imprint for herself in the scholarly field by her self help books aimed to instill the power of self belief in minds of many readers. Her work has endeavoured to uncover her women's activist position and the superachiever in her speaks to woman reasonableness and their zeal to succeed in life.

  • Anger and People Pleasing - the driving force behind an autoimmune disease . :Rakshaa Chhabriaa

Being diagnosed with an Auto Immune can be absolutely frustrating, fearful , panic driven , unbelievable and what not ? Firstly , we have to deal with all these emotions before we come to the place of acceptance. Yes it’s nerve wrecking to be diagnosed with an auto immune and being told it’s incurable . The burden just gets heavier and nobody knows what to do , where to look for help besides medication . We need to get emotionally and mentally more strong too to cope up with the stress of an auto immune and its flare ups . Learning about the mental emotional and spiritual meaning of autoimmune diseases can be empowering and help us start our healing process and take better care of ourselves. Autoimmune diseases cover a range of conditions in which the immune system attacks itself rather than foreign bacteria and viruses . Arthritis, multiple sclerosis, Grave’s disease, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, and lupus are all autoimmune diseases. There is no apparent reason why some people get autoimmune diseases and others do not. There is no specific cure medically for an autoimmune disorder . The medicines only work symptomatically to help lessen pain and suffering caused by them. Learning the spiritual aspects of our illnesses, rather, can help us learn something about how best to support our bodies, hearts, and spirits as they are. Many autoimmune diseases center around inflammation . In a healthy immune response, inflammation helps heat up the body and kill bacteria and virus . When these defenses are turned against the self, this can be a source of pain and discomfort that can feel self-perpetuating. Energetically, heat is related to the emotion of anger. Anger can be understood as the emotional body’s immune system or response . It shows up to protect the self, to patrol its boundaries, and to ensure the self gets what it needs. When we consistently ignore or suppress our anger, it may have nowhere to turn but inward. Anger looks like : * It can be rageful — like an out-of-control monster mommy when the kids are pushing her buttons during the day that she just can’t possibly take anymore. * It can look like giving the stink eye to her husband and being irritated at everything he does because he said something that hurt her feelings or was insensitive. * In fact, It also sometimes feels like you develop a superhero level of anger repression that comes in the form of passive aggressiveness. * It can look like a smiling and happy face and, “Everything is just fine!” as you commit to ignoring and suppressing the things that really hurt and bother you . Anger is like the gun loaded with bullets waiting for the trigger to be pulled . Being angry at the disease itself , at the body for dis functioning , at themselves for being the way that they are, and even at past events that continue to haunt them — but they often also tell themselves that they shouldn’t outwardly express their frustrations. Instead, they ignore them , bottle them up, only adding to their body’s stress response. it’s okay to be angry. Anger is natural, it is useful, and we ALL experience it. The key is to express your anger and move through it, rather than stewing in it . Navigating and understanding your anger and triggers is extremely important . “Why does this bug me so much? My emotions just go out of control!“I’m an angry person — who the heck could love such ugliness?” and so on. Anger can wreak havoc on our immune systems Unaddressed anger often creates problems in relationships both at home and in the workplace. But beyond that, it can have devastating physical consequences. Whether outbursts or suppressed - Both types of anger are associated with heart disease, stroke, cancer and auto immune diseases . It can not only aggravate autoimmune symptoms but it can also stand in the way of the healing process. Healing the anger is the only solution . Bach remedies work on the different anger responses , triggers and other trauma and emotions associated with anger . It transforms the energy of anger into love which is light and fluid . The nervous system ther y calms down and immune system functions happily n correctly in due time . The interaction between our mind and bodies and more about the profound connection of our thoughts and emotions on our immune system definitely fast tracks our healing process . As a bach therapist and emotional energy coach I teach my clients to use their emotion of anger as a guide. This helps us get to the root cause of their anger, what it feels like and maybe affects some specific part of the body . Getting the anger out of your body in a wild, unconventional way can lead to a euphoric feeling—it’s just the emotion living out its life cycle. But consciously and mindfully giving your anger permission to throw itself out or transform itself into a better energy is owning your anger and being its master.
