City-based palliative care facility Sparsh Hospice organised its annual fundraising night ‘Sparsh Nite’ on Friday night in the city at Shilpakala Vedika, Madhapur. Somesh Kumar, Chief Secretary; Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, Government of Telangana graced as chief guests for the play.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Somesh Kumar said that it is a matter of great pride that Sparsh Hospice has served 5000 patients who were in the end stage of cancer. The home care service provided by it is the most valuable service. Getting Cancer is a big trauma and taking care of the affected person is an even bigger trauma.
Fortunately, we have this facility with 65000 sq ft and is India’s biggest palliative care facility. And he assured me that if there is anything the government can do to run it smoothly, we are just a call away, and he assured the management of Sparsh Hospice.
‘Blame it on Yashraj’, was a Bollywood musical comedy about an Indian family caught in the whirlwind of a wedding. The proceeds from the event will be utilised to provide free palliative care facilities to terminally ill patients. So far, Sparsh Hospice has provided free palliative care services to over 5,000 terminally ill patients.
All the services provided are free of cost. The terminally ill cancer patients are taken care of well at Sparsh Hospice. It is an 82 bedded state-of-the-art facility which has come up in Khajaguda in the city. To run it, it needs Rs 40 lakh every month. All the funds to run this are provided by philanthropic individuals and organisations.
Once upon a time, around 54 BC (that's before Bollywood Control), weddings in India were simple ''rituals linked to individual communities'' affairs. Then Bollywood changed the face of Indian weddings forever, making them all clones of a Punjabi Bollywood six-day wedding. Blame it on Yashraj was the hilarious story of a Punjabi/Bengali family, who get caught up in the whirlwind of a wedding when their darling daughter decides to marry a boy from another community.
Innovatively mounted with fast-changing video walls as backdrops, every scene and every emotion was enhanced with music and dances, hilarious parodies of popular Bollywood tracks and an ensemble cast of well-known stage and TV artists. The play featured a foot-tapping score by Louis Bank. It was a laugh-a-minute roller coaster ride.
The humour in the play comes not from gags, but from the ''I have seen that I have said that, I have experienced that in my family!'' feeling! The play was a mirror of our life being shown on stage.

Sparsh Hospice was developed on a 1.2 acre of land at Khajaguda, which was donated by the State government, the Sparsh Hospice has 82-beds including 10 paediatric beds and home-care services. The state-of-the-art facility was inaugurated in 2021 by IT Minister, KT Rama Rao.
Sparsh Hospice-Centre for Palliative Care, a project of Rotary Club of Banjara Hills Charitable Trust, aims to extend free-of-cost palliative care services to terminally-ill patients through in-patient, out-patient and home-care services.
Palliative Care is the care given to terminally ill patients. Sparsh Hospice is an 82 bedded new facility at Khajaguda. The 60,000 ft facility was constructed on 1.1 acre leased land which the Government of Telangana allocated to it for a 33 years lease and was inaugurated recently.
