  • Living Your Best Life: A Session with Raageshwari Loomba

Renowned pop singer, model turned actress, and mindfulness speaker Raageshwari Loomba addresses FLO's session on "How to Live Your Best Life" The FICCI Ladies Organisation (FLO) recently organized an inspirational session on "How to Live Your Best Life", featuring the multi-talented Raageshwari Loomba. Raageshwari, known for her successful career as a singer, actress, television personality, and mindfulness speaker, captivated the audience with her remarkable journey of resilience and personal growth. Raageshwari's rise to fame began with her debut film "Ankhen" where her onscreen presence mesmerized audiences. However, she encountered a life-altering setback when she was forced to retire due to health issues, leaving her bedridden for four years. Undeterred by adversity, Raageshwari embarked on a journey of rehabilitation through physiotherapy and yoga and successfully made her comeback. Ritu Shah, Chairperson of FLO, emphasized the significance of mental well-being and praised Raageshwari's determination to overcome obstacles. During the session, Raageshwari shared her inspiring tale, which included hit songs like "Duniya," "Pyaar Ka Rang," "Osaka Muraiya," and "Dil Sheesha." She also recounted her experiences participating in the reality show "Bigg Boss 5," acting in films, and hosting TV shows. Furthermore, Raageshwari opened up about her personal life, including her marriage to a London-based lawyer in 2014. Amidst her challenges, Raageshwari underwent a profound transformation in her perspective towards life. A true fighter at heart, she defied setbacks and emerged stronger with every hurdle. Ritu Shah lauded her indomitable spirit and described her journey as truly inspiring. The conversation between Ritu Shah and Raageshwari Loomba began with an impactful slide that read, "Limit is not in the sky. It is in your mind." Reflecting on her own experiences, Raageshwari stated, "I don't drink, or smoke. I never led a sedentary lifestyle. I was always active and fit. But to my horror, I had to suffer from Bell's palsy during the peak of my career, leading me to abruptly leave my acting career." Bell's palsy is a condition that causes sudden weakness in the muscles on one side of the face. Raageshwari gracefully accepted this challenge and took every possible step to regain her strength and return to her passion. Raageshwari shared a profound insight she gained during her journey: the incredible story of the Golden Budha in Thailand, which taught her that we all have a golden essence within us. She emphasized that our ability to let our inner light shine depends on our mindset. "If you are negative, we don't let our good light shine. We need to be positive," she stressed. According to Raageshwari, mentally strong individuals do not complain. Complaining only diminishes our brain's potential. She also touched upon the historical impact of British colonization on India's education system, which she believes has contributed to a weakening of the national character. Drawing parallels between ancient Indian wisdom and modern science, she highlighted the approach of billionaire Richard Branson, who is known for his "yes" mindset within his company. Expanding on the concept of focus and energy, Raageshwari emphasized that they are intertwined. "Focus goes where energy goes, and vice versa," she stated. She encouraged the audience to direct their focus towards the amazing aspects of their lives, as she revealed that approximately 80% of our daily thoughts tend to lean towards the negative. She encouraged individuals to unlock their brain's power and cultivate positivity. Raageshwari also highlighted the remarkable capabilities of the human body, stating, "Our body is an amazing piece of equipment. It has a solution to every problem we face. We must learn to use our inner strengths." When asked for parenting advice, Raageshwari shared a unique perspective. She emphasized that there is no universal advice for parenting, as it varies for each individual. However, she advocated for mindful parenting and focusing on conscious interactions with children. Additionally, she acknowledged that spending quality time with children is more important than quantity. Despite the challenges of the digital age and distractions, Raageshwari believed that a few minutes of focused connection in the morning and at night can make a significant difference in building strong parent-child relationships. In the realm of healthy relationships through social media, Raageshwari expressed that true friendships are based on emotional support rather than simply partying together. She emphasized the importance of having friends who can be there during difficult times, creating a genuine connection that transcends the virtual world. The session with Raageshwari Loomba organized by FLO left the audience inspired and motivated to embrace challenges, nurture their mental well-being, and strive to live their best lives. Raageshwari's journey, infused with resilience and a positive mindset, continues to serve as a beacon of hope for individuals aiming to overcome adversity and thrive in every aspect of life.

  • Water Hyacinth for Sustainable Livelihood: Dr. Anjum Qureshi

Water hyacinth is a freshwater weed, generally considered a problematic aquatic plant. It grows very fast in ponds, streams, and rivers. Water hyacinth covers the entire water body like a mat causing oxygen depletion for fish, clogging of dams, and preventing river transportation and fishing. Municipalities and waste management organizations in India have been trying hard to clean the water bodies but the weed does not get destroyed completely. The removed weeds are either dumped in landfills or burnt. Disposal of the never-ending weeds increases the burden on landfills while burning causes pollution. Taking into account the problems of the aquatic weed Ajay Multipurpose Organization in Chandrapur has been working to convert the weeds into useful products. The president of the organization, Swati Dhotkar says, “Nothing is wasted in this world”. Ajay multipurpose organization has developed an innovative method to use the problematic aquatic weeds and at the same time contribute to saving the environment. The project has been running in the district for more than two years. A group of people proficient in swimming is used for the removal of weeds from the water bodies. The stems are dried and then rolled into strips using special equipment that has been exclusively designed for the process. Skilled artists use these strips to make bags, files, yoga mats, lamp stands, and similar products. The products are durable, easy to use, and are environment friendly. The bags, yoga mats, files, etc. are being used widely and are considered to be a good option to avoid plastic. The benefits of using these products are: (i) Reduce usage of plastic bags (ii) Reduce pollution caused due to burning of weeds and (iii) Reduce the burden on landfills. Besides the environmental concerns, the project has helped make women financially independent. The organization works in remote villages. These villages have agriculture as the main occupation. Owing to the increasing cases of man-animal conflicts the women hesitate to work in fields. Many others never go to work due to the stereotypes. But the initiative of the organization has provided training to more than 200 women. Some of the women are working as master trainers and others are working as skilled artists. The raw material is provided to women and they work at their home. They get paid for the products and thus they are earning being at home. The members of the organization are trying to expand their work by involving more women and creating facilitation centers where women can come together and work. The unique and innovative project is converting waste weed to wealth. It is serving to save the environment. It is working to provide sustainable livelihood to many women and the numbers are increasing.
