On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Kharadi Women’s Organisation (KWO), in association with the Vedgunn Foundation, organised a Tree Plantation Drive at PDEA Shardabai Pawar English Medium School, Kharadi under its ongoing “Green Fingers Project.”
The initiative continues KWO’s sustained commitment to environmental awareness and community-led ecological action, reinforcing its annual tradition of promoting sustainability through on-ground participation.
The plantation drive saw active involvement from the organisation’s Founding Team and Management Committee members, including Dr. (HC) Saravjeet Kirad, Sweta Pankaj, Swati Chaudhary, Dr. Manjiri Lawande, Pradnya Attarde, Roshni Nair, Nimisha Ruikar, Pallavi Joshi, and Akshada. Their participation underscored a collective emphasis on environmental responsibility and civic engagement.

Organisers noted that the initiative is designed not only as a symbolic gesture but as a practical step towards fostering environmental stewardship among students and the wider community. Members highlighted that each sapling planted represents a long-term commitment to ecological balance and a healthier future.
The plantation drive also formed part of KWO’s broader outreach under the “Green Fingers Project,” which aims to instil environmental responsibility among young learners through experiential participation. By involving students in planting and nurturing saplings, the initiative seeks to move beyond awareness and foster a culture of accountability towards nature from an early age.
Speaking on the occasion, the team encouraged students and staff to take active ownership in environmental protection and to integrate sustainable practices into everyday life.
In the coming months, the organisation plans to extend similar activities across other educational institutions and community spaces, with a focus on long-term plant care and survival rather than one-time plantation efforts. This includes follow-up visits, monitoring of sapling growth, and encouraging student-led green clubs to maintain continuity.
Such initiatives are increasingly being viewed as essential in urban ecosystems like Pune’s rapidly developing corridors, where green cover is under consistent pressure. Through collaborative action between civil society groups, schools, and local partners, KWO continues to position environmental stewardship as a shared civic responsibility rather than an isolated effort.
The drive concluded with a strong message of collective responsibility and optimism for the future:
“Every tree planted today is a promise towards a cleaner, greener tomorrow.”
🌱 Small hands can create a big impact.
🌱 Let’s grow hope, let’s grow green.
🌱 Be a part of the change.
