- India's Net Zero 2070 Goal Explored at Net Zero Summit 2024
IMT Hyderabad, in collaboration with Virtusa, Greenko Group, and IIT Hyderabad hosted the second edition of the Net Zero Summit 2024 today at IMT in Shamshabad The summit focused on the theme “India’s Net Zero 2070 Goal: Progress, Pitfalls, and Possibilities,” exploring the country’s journey towards achieving net zero GHG emissions target by 2070. With insights into key sectors like power, agriculture, chemical, IT/ITES, and circular business organization this event discussed the intersection of economic growth and environmental sustainability. Giving his keynote address virtually Jayesh Ranjan, the Special Chief Secretary of the Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Information Technology (IT) Departments of the Telangana government said our Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a net zero by 2070 target at COP26 in 2021. This commitment India avoided for many years. And we were criticised for the same. But, for a change it was committed by none other than the Prime Minister. Being a head of the nation he must have had his calculations and expert advice to make that commitment based on the performance levels of various states in India. But in the case of Telangana and some other states, it can achieve this much earlier. Though there is no official word from the Telangana Government so far on this based on some back calculations which we have done I can comfortably say that Telangana can achieve Net Zero status by the year 2047, which also happens to be the 100th year of India’s Independence. I am saying this based on some back calculations, Mr. Jayesh Ranjan said. If Telangana achieves Net Zero status by 2047, it will be a big milestone he added. Speaking further he added that I am saying this because we have been running Haritha haram for the past ten years. Tree plantation happened prior to that. We have rejuvenated many of our lakes. We have announced the Cool Roof Policy, EV and E Mobility Policy etc. All of these initiatives will certainly make Telangana a Net Zero State, one of the few in India by 2047, which is much earlier than India committed to becoming Net Zero. The summit commenced with ceremonial lamp lighting by representatives from IMT Hyderabad, Virtusa, Greenko, and IIT Hyderabad. This was followed by a welcome address delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Sriharsha Reddy , Director of IMT Hyderabad. - "POSTERS THAT SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!"- Dr PRATIK MUNGEKAR
1. Tell a Visual Story through Design Focus on the Journey, Not Just the Destination : Encourage participants to design their posters as a journey rather than a static display. It should lead viewers from the introduction to the conclusion in a way that mimics the process of discovery, gradually revealing key findings like chapters in a book. Design for Memory Triggers : Use color coding, symbols, or specific visual cues to trigger memory recall for the viewers. For instance, colors associated with emotions can be used to highlight key findings or areas of impact, making the information stick more effectively. 2. Interactive Elements Use QR Codes and Digital Integration : Encourage adding QR codes that link to interactive content like short videos, 3D models, or simulations related to the poster's topic. This adds a layer of interactivity, engaging viewers beyond the traditional static poster. Gamify the Experience : Suggest incorporating elements that make the poster presentation like a mini-game or quiz for viewers, helping them engage actively and retain the information better. 3. Human-Centered Approach Highlight the Human Element Behind the Research : Encourage presenters to include a small section about the inspiration, challenges, and stories behind the research. Sharing the personal journey behind the science can humanize the poster, making it more relatable and memorable. Impact Statement : Include a section that specifically addresses the potential real-world impact of the research in simple terms. How will this poster's topic change lives, improve systems, or innovate industries? 4. Minimal Text, Maximum Impact Infographic-Style Approach : Suggest turning complex data into compelling visuals using infographics. Visual storytelling with minimal text and high-impact images helps in quicker absorption and recall. One-Minute Rule : All essential information on the poster should be able to be comprehended within a minute. This brevity ensures that even in a crowded room, the key message is communicated effectively. 5. Reverse the Format Present the Conclusion First : Challenge traditional formats by suggesting that presenters lead with their conclusions or findings, then follow with the supporting data. This approach captures attention immediately and creates curiosity about the research journey. Visual Abstract : Create a mini visual abstract at the top of the poster that summarizes the entire research in a visually engaging way. It acts as a "hook" for viewers to dive deeper into the details. 6. The Power of Silence Silent Presentation Technique : Introduce the concept of a silent presentation, where the poster is so self-explanatory that it needs minimal verbal elaboration. This technique challenges presenters to focus on clarity and self-sufficiency of their visuals. Interactive Headphones : Encourage presenters to have a set of headphones linked to an audio explanation or guided tour of their poster. It adds an immersive experience and is a unique way to stand out. 7. Engage the Senses Beyond Sight Tactile Elements : Suggest incorporating tactile elements that viewers can touch or feel, like textured materials or 3D printed models related to the research topic. This multi-sensory engagement enhances memory retention. Scent Memory : If relevant to the topic, using scent as an added layer to create a more immersive experience can be an innovative approach. Scent is closely linked to memory and emotion. 8. Real-Time Data Visualization Dynamic Data with Real-Time Updates : Integrate real-time data visualization on the poster, where live data (if applicable) can be shown through a tablet or screen embedded in the poster itself. This provides the audience with up-to-date results and makes the presentation dynamic. Data Animation : Encourage animating key data trends or findings using augmented reality apps or animated screens that come to life when viewers interact with them. 9. Creative Communication Techniques Use Analogies and Metaphors : Encourage presenters to use creative analogies or metaphors to explain complex concepts. Analogies can bridge the gap between the research and the audience's understanding, making it easier to grasp. Storytelling with Data : Suggest weaving the data into a narrative that resonates with real-life scenarios or problems. Storytelling transforms numbers into a relatable experience, making the research more impactful. 10. Emphasize the Poster as a Networking Tool Call to Action (CTA) : Include a clear and compelling call to action that prompts viewers to take the next step — be it a follow-up conversation, a collaborative idea, or visiting a website for further information. Interactive Business Cards : Instead of static business cards, suggest having cards with NFC chips that, when tapped with a smartphone, directly open up a digital portfolio or research page. These unique and forward-thinking points can help emphasize the role of posters not just as visual aids but as powerful tools for communication, engagement, and collaboration. These ideas will set the tone for pushing the boundaries of how poster paper presentations are traditionally perceived.

- Corporate stress and Emotional Mental health - Rakshaa chhabriaa
There's a lot in the media these days about Corporate Stress and Emotional & Mental Health but what exactly is it? Poor or even average stress and mental health is living with suppressed intense negative emotions, so much so that these feelings control your life whether you are realising it or not . All outcomes you are unhappy about are surfacing out of these emotions . Princes William and Harry admitted having difficulty dealing with their mother's death and since then it’s been the headlines . And now the Prince and Princess of Wales are championing the importance of Emotional Mental Health for happy and productive lives. Your mental and emotional health are everything. Feeling unloved often stems from many underlying layers of emotions including past experiences, relationship dynamics and internal beliefs. Whether from childhood experiences of neglect or shaped by more recent disappointments, getting to the origins is crucial in addressing the feeling of being unloved. The feeling of being unloved can manifest in various ways, ranging from persistent sadness , low self esteem ,difficulty forming healthy relationships and seeking validation from others. Recognising these symptoms allows us to acknowledge and address the impact of feeling unloved on our daily lives. This feeling can take a toll on mental and emotional wellbeing, contributing to the stress stemming from anxiety and depression . The persistent sense of emptiness and inadequacy can erode our sense of self-worth and hinder our ability to experience joy and fulfilment in life. Understanding the profound impact of feeling unloved underscores the importance of seeking effective strategies for emotional healing and growth. 'Depression' or rather “ sadness”covers an entire package of feelings that are all involved with poor 'emotional mental health'. The two buzz words that come to my mind in connection with Emotional Mental Health are 'Anxiety' and 'Depression' and anyone who lives with either or both of these feelings often suffers from severe loneliness. Bothe create a conducive growing environment for each other and the circle gets completed . Depression is most of the times the result of anxiety , lack of confidence at a very deep level that we've lived with for longer than we realise. Also other emotional states associated are self blame , guilt , low self esteem . The good news is : Bach Remedies can heal painful feelings . we're all different and we react to experiences in different ways, so we may often need different Bach Remedies. It might be that two people with seemingly similar 'depressions' might need different remedy combinations for a healing. Let’s understand the difference between “anxiety and panic “. It is the intensity of your feelings that's different. If you feel really intense anxiety that changes how you live then a combination with Rock Rose will be beneficial. If you're a 'worrier' and are anxious about the things of everyday life, then a combination with Mimulus would work well . Every remedy needs a supportive remedy and a link breaker so as to effectively transform and change the feeling . Without the support and link breaker - results are short lived . Rescue Remedy - as the name suggests “ rescue “ . It literally rescues you from a panic or emergency or a grief situation. What are the Social Influences on Gender Development? Social Influences on Gender Development. Just as there are biological influences on gender development, there are also social influences on gender development. Observation is one of our most important survival skills as humans. Children watch and observes those around us from a very young age m and, eventually, try to mimic them. This phenomenon is called the "Social Learning Theory".The social environment has long been recognized as an important context for human development in general and gender development in particular. Children’s environments are replete with cues about gender appropriateness and models of gendered behavior. Children receive direct and indirect feedback about their gendered behavior such as the reward of social approval by peers or parents. As a result, gender role differences appear early, especially in domains where the environment is strongly gender-differentiated such as in the realm of play or children’s media. From early in life, boys and girls show gender-differentiated preferences for color, toys, and same-gender peers. There are various contemporary theories of gender development with a focus on Social Cognitive Theory that have evolved with time in this regard. The five principles of social learning theory are observation (seeing a behaviour), attention (how much we notice the behaviour), retention (how well we remember the behaviour), reproduction (whether or not we repeat the behaviour), and motivation (our drive to imitate the behaviour). The "Social Learning Theory" argues that we learn gender roles from imitating people around us, which we call models. By imitating and receiving reinforcement, we internalise new behaviours and gender roles.Another theory of "Social Role Theory" argues that widely shared gender stereotypes develop from the gender division of labor that characterizes a society. In western societies, men's greater participation in paid positions of higher power and status and the disproportionate assignment of nurturant roles to women have created stereotypes that associate agency with men and communion with women. In addition, the gendered division of labor gives men and women differentiated skills. When gender stereotypes are salient in a group because of a mixed sex membership or a task or context that is culturally associated with one gender, stereotypes shape behavior directly through the expectations members form for one another's behavior. When group members enact social roles that are more tightly linked to the context than gender, such as manager and employee in the workplace, these more proximate roles control their behavior rather than gender stereotypes. Even in situations where gender stereotypes do not control behavior, however, men and women may still act slightly differently due to their gender differentiated skills. Generations of a family are interdependent. Children are influenced by the changing realities of their family environments. Families are changed by the changing capacities and resources of individual family members. As children mature and form families of their own, they bring some of the experiences they have had as young children into their relationships as marital partners and parents. This kind of model of intergenerational transmission is especially relevant for thinking about the process through which cultural values, beliefs, and practices influence the life course. Children learn much about the complementary roles that are enacted by their parents as they coordinate their behaviors with those of their caregivers. As a result, internalization of societal expectations occurs in part through participation in complementary role relationships. What is the Role Of Gender In Mental Health? Gender roles are societal expectations and norms that define how individuals should behave, act, and present themselves based on their perceived sexual attributes or gender identity. Cultural, historical, and social factors often influence these gender-related roles and vary across different societies and time periods. Gender roles often affect the way individuals express emotions. For example, men may feel pressured to suppress emotions, such as sadness, fear, or vulnerability, as they are expected to embody stoicism and strength. On the other hand, women may feel pressured to prioritize nurturing and caregiving roles, which can result in neglecting their own emotional needs. The suppression of emotions can lead to increased stress, internal conflict, and difficulties in forming authentic connections with others. Sometimes, expectations related to gender stereotypes may interfere with an individual's well-being and personal growth. Gender roles can significantly impact mental health, influencing individuals' emotional well-being, self-esteem, and overall psychological state. Here are some ways in which gender roles can negatively affect mental health: (1) Emotional Suppression: Gender roles often affect the way individuals express emotions. (2) Self-esteem Issues: Conforming to rigid gender roles can impact self-esteem. Those who feel they do not meet societal expectations based on their gender may experience feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt, or a sense of failure. For instance, men who don’t fulfill the traditional masculine ideal of being strong and successful may develop feelings of shame or diminished self-worth. Women who struggle to meet unrealistic standards of beauty and femininity may experience body dissatisfaction and lowered self-esteem. (3) Perfectionism and Pressure: Gender roles may impose high expectations and pressure on individuals to adhere to societal norms. Men may feel compelled to demonstrate constant competence and independence, while women may face pressure to excel in multiple roles simultaneously (e.g., career and family). The pursuit of perfectionism to meet these expectations can lead to chronic stress, anxiety, and feelings of overwhelm. (4) Stigma and Discrimination: Individuals who challenge or deviate from traditional gender roles may face stigma, discrimination, and social rejection. For example, men may be less likely to seek help for mental health concerns due to the societal expectation that men should be strong and resilient. On the other hand, women may be less willing to seek help for postpartum depression due to cultural ideas about motherhood and caretaking. (5) Limited Opportunities and Growth : Gender roles can restrict individuals' opportunities for personal and professional growth. For instance, women may face barriers in pursuing careers in male- dominated fields due to stereotypes and bias. Men may feel limited in expressing their interests or pursuing non-traditional hobbies due to fears of judgment or ridicule. These limitations can lead to frustration, not satisfied in life, and a sense of unfulfilled potential. Those who defy gender norms or embrace non-conforming gender roles may face unique mental health challenges. For example, women who choose not to have children may experience societal pressure or judgment for deviating from traditional gender roles. They may face criticism or feel ostracized for their decision, which can contribute to feelings of isolation, guilt, or self-doubt. Additionally, those identifying as transgender, genderqueer, or non-binary may face discrimination, stigma, and systemic barriers that can significantly impact their mental health. Fear of rejection and violence can lead to chronic stress, anxiety, and trauma. Studies have shown that transgender individuals have higher rates of depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns compared to the general population. Of those identifying as transgender, 82% have contemplated taking their own life, and 40% have attempted suicide. These figures indicate a significant disparity in suicidal ideation between transgender and cisgender individuals, prompting an urgent need to provide mental healthcare services to those more likely to experience gender-related stigma and violence. Supportive social networks and mental health resources can help mitigate the negative impact on mental health. Thus, in addition to connecting with supportive communities, it may be beneficial for those living outside of traditional gender norms to seek mental health support.
