Born in the quaint village of Jambhale, nestled in the embrace of the Sahyadri mountains, Mr. Nagesh Sopan Hulawale grew up in a region sanctified by the divine presence of Avatar Meher Baba. His family of five—his parents and two brothers—lived a simple, contented life. Dependent on rain-fed agriculture, their income was modest, but his parents instilled in him invaluable lessons. His father, despite ending his formal education at matriculation, taught Mr. Nagesh and his brothers the art of living joyfully within means and imbued them with strong moral values and character. While they couldn’t provide a lavish lifestyle, they gifted their children something far greater—principles, resilience, and integrity.

From an early age, Nagesh was well-liked—sensitive, spirited, and occasionally quick-tempered, though he rarely expressed his emotions outwardly. When his father moved to Mumbai for work, Nagesh stayed back in the village with his maternal uncle, where he embraced hard work as a way of life. The daily six-kilometre trek to school in Brahmanwada was routine.

When Nagesh was in the 9th grade, his father returned to the village and began farming.

It was only in class 10 that his father bought him an old bicycle, making his journey to school easier.

Pursuing his BA and MA demanded immense effort, and as the eldest sibling, he shouldered significant responsibilities. In 2004, he arrived in Mumbai, taught in private coaching classes while honing various skills, and completed his B.Ed. For Mr. Nagesh Sopan Hulawale, effort always trumped fate. Though he aspired to pursue an MBA and had the aptitude, financial constraints forced him to abandon it after a year. Undeterred, he secured a job as an assistant teacher at a night school in Andheri through sheer perseverance.

Soon after joining the night school, Usha, an MA and B.Ed. graduate, entered his life as his wife, bringing with her the blessings of prosperity and wisdom. Their home in Dombivli became a reality, and their daughter, Sai, bloomed like a sweet flower on the vine of their family. Mr. Nagesh Sopan Hulawale also taught at a junior college for a time, never shying away from hard work. His family life was blissful, yet his restless spirit yearned for more. His heart urged him to do something greater, to leave a mark.

This inner calling led him to establish World Vision, a platform dedicated to literary, social, and cultural initiatives, where he serves as the founding president. Through this organisation, he has organised numerous literary and cultural programs, including a year-long series of literary events to celebrate the Amrit Mahotsav of India’s independence. He also orchestrated the historic Savitribai Phule Night School National Poets’ Meet at the iconic National Library in Bandra.

A literary soul at heart, Mr. Nagesh Sopan Hulawale’s contributions are nothing short of extraordinary. His translation of the Prithvi Sanghrajya Constitution into Marathi, offered free of charge, is a testament to his commitment to society. His literary repertoire is vast, spanning far beyond stories and poems to include complex subjects that leave readers in awe. His poetry collection, Anandachya Lahari (Waves of Joy), has been published, as has his English translation of From Cleanliness to Prosperity. He has effortlessly edited works on themes like Swatantryaveer Savarkar, The Saga of the Freedom Struggle, and We Are Shivaji’s Mavlas. The sheer breadth of his literary achievements is staggering, making it feel as though documenting his work is like a sparrow attempting to drink the ocean.

Mr. Nagesh Sopan Hulawale’s accolades speak volumes about his monumental contributions. Among them, the Sahitya Bhushan Award from Pune’s Marathboli Sanstha stands out as a cherished milestone. Other honours include the International Vishwasnehi Award, the Savitribai Phule Karmayogi Rashtriya Puraskar – 2022, awarded by the historic National Library, Bandra, the Rotary Club’s Nation Builder Award, the International Dahali Tricentenary Award, Rashtrasant Tukdoji Maharaj Best Editor Award, Kavivarya Narayan Surve Memorial Award, and the Ideal Teacher Award 2023 from the Kalyan Nagari Weekly Newspaper Group. The list is seemingly endless. Notably, he edited the commemorative volume Regulus 18 August, based on the life of renowned litterateur Dr. Madhusudan Ghanekar. His interview on Radio FTII Pune is a must-listen, brimming with insights.

Mr. Nagesh Sopan Hulawale’s writings also grace English newspapers, and he passionately conducts lectures, camps, and workshops on diverse topics. Organising innovative initiatives and ensuring their success is his passion. Before the pandemic, he arranged a lecture series for class 10 students and continues to conduct English workshops in schools. To provide a platform for writers, he launched World Vision Times Mumbai, a digital daily dedicated to literature, where he serves as editor. This platform publishes works by both established and emerging writers, free of charge, every day.

How does one even begin to praise such a multifaceted, dedicated artist? His work is infused with a spirit of devotion, a quality that defines his very being. While most live for themselves, Mr. Nagesh Sopan Hulawale acknowledges his debt to society, working tirelessly for the betterment of others. His journey embodies this ethos, earning him immense respect. To this remarkable son of India, who cherishes the talents of others, we extend our heartfelt wishes for continued success!
