  • Kanan Patel: Redefining Leadership Through Service, Education, and Nation-Building

In an era where leadership is often measured by titles, influence, and achievements, Kanan Patel is championing a different approach—one built on empathy, service, and meaningful impact. As the Founder of the Kreative Change Initiative under Altruvera Social Foundation, Kanan has dedicated herself to creating opportunities for soldiers, veterans, educators, students, and underserved communities. Her work reflects a simple yet powerful belief: true leadership begins when we choose to serve others. A defining chapter in her journey unfolded during a visit to the Siachen Base Camp, one of the most challenging terrains in the world. Amid the vast glaciers and extreme weather conditions, she witnessed firsthand the resilience and commitment of Indian soldiers serving in temperatures that often plunge below minus forty degrees. “The mountains teach you humility,” Kanan reflects. “When you see soldiers performing their duties under such conditions, you gain a new perspective on sacrifice, resilience, and responsibility.” The experience left a lasting impression, deepening her commitment to contributing to society in more meaningful ways. Returning to Pune, Kanan transformed her passion for service into long-term initiatives designed to create sustainable change. Through Kreative Change, she spearheaded programs focused on rehabilitation engagement for injured soldiers, educational empowerment, teacher development, and community-driven projects aimed at strengthening the social fabric of the nation. Her collaboration with Army Goodwill Schools in Leh and Kargil marked another significant milestone. Understanding the unique challenges faced by educators in remote regions, she launched specialised teacher development programs that brought teachers to Pune for immersive learning experiences. The training sessions focused on communication skills, innovative classroom engagement techniques, leadership development, and the integration of modern educational tools, including artificial intelligence. Beyond professional development, the initiative provided teachers with encouragement, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose. “Teachers in remote areas are among our most important nation-builders,” says Kanan. “When we invest in their growth, we invest in the future of countless young minds.” A strong advocate for youth engagement, Kanan believes that service should be experienced rather than simply discussed. Through various educational and social initiatives, she encourages young people to step beyond observation and actively engage with communities, cultivating empathy, responsibility, and social awareness. Despite the scale and diversity of her work, Kanan believes that meaningful service begins with understanding. “The most important lesson I learned was to stop trying to ‘help’ people and start listening to them,” she explains. “Real change happens when we understand people’s realities and work alongside them.” This philosophy forms the foundation of her TEDx theme, “Service is Education.” Drawing from years of grassroots experience, Kanan argues that some of life’s most valuable lessons are learned through service itself. According to her, service teaches qualities that traditional education alone cannot fully instil—empathy, patience, leadership, discipline, gratitude, and a deeper sense of human connection. For Kanan Patel, service is not merely an act of giving back. It is a lifelong journey of learning, growth, and transformation—one that has the power to shape stronger individuals, stronger communities, and ultimately, a stronger nation.

  • Stanford Professor Conducts CME on AI-Augmented Pediatric Care at Niemphasisingloufer Hospital

Hyderabad, May 30, 2026: Dr Matthew Strehlow, Professor of Emergency Medicine and Executive Vice Chair at Stanford University, USA, conducted a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “The AI-Augmented Clinician: Transforming Care for the Acutely Sick Child” at Government Niloufer Hospital, Hyderabad, on Friday evening. The interactive session, held, was attended by faculty members from various departments, postgraduate students, and healthcare professionals associated with the hospital, as stated a press note issued in the city today. During his presentation, Dr Strehlow highlighted the emerging role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in pediatric healthcare, discussing its advantages, limitations, and potential challenges. He explained how AI can support clinicians in improving decision-making, enhancing patient outcomes, and delivering more efficient care, while emphasising the importance of responsible and appropriate use of the technology. The session featured activity-based learning exercises that actively engaged participants and encouraged discussions on practical applications of AI in clinical settings. The Superintendent of Niloufer Hospital, Dr Vijay Kumar, along with his team, formally welcomed Dr Strehlow and facilitated him at the conclusion of the programme. GVK EMRI has been collaborating with Stanford University since 2007. As part of this longstanding partnership, visits by senior Stanford faculty are leveraged to organise CME programmes and knowledge-sharing sessions in premier government hospitals across Hyderabad and other parts of the country, benefiting medical professionals and strengthening healthcare delivery systems. Speaking on the occasion, Dr G.V.K. Raja Narsing Rao, Anaesthesiologist and Critical Care Specialist, appreciated the excellent work being carried out by Niloufer Hospital and thanked the hospital administration for hosting the programme. He particularly commended the hospital's commitment to neonatal care, noting that regular screening of newborn babies, including Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) screening for vulnerable infants, is being conducted effectively in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). He observed that such initiatives play a crucial role in the early detection and prevention of vision-related complications among premature babies and reflect the hospital's dedication to providing quality pediatric and neonatal healthcare. The CME programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, providing participants an opportunity to engage directly with Dr Strehlow on the future of AI-assisted healthcare and its role in improving pediatric patient care. • Renny Strips strengthens global positioning through low-carbon manufacturing and CBAM-ready operations

New Delhi, 19th May 2026: Renny Strips Ltd. is expanding its presence in overseas markets, particularly Europe. The development comes at a time when Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulations and sustainability-related compliance are becoming increasingly important in the global steel industry. According to Renny Strips, buyers in European markets are increasingly seeking more clarity around emissions, sustainability compliance, and manufacturing practices before sourcing decisions are finalised. The company believes its emphasis on operational efficiency, integrated manufacturing, and reduced-carbon production practices is helping international customers address changing sourcing expectations while also supporting broader compliance and sustainability goals. Mr. Binny Gupta, Managing Director, Renny Strips Limited, said, “Global manufacturing is entering a phase where sustainability, carbon accountability, and compliance readiness will become central to long-term competitiveness. At Renny Strips, we have consistently focused on building a low-carbon and future-ready manufacturing ecosystem that delivers both environmental and commercial value to international customers.” “We have continued investing in renewable energy, integrated manufacturing systems, AI-supported monitoring, and Green Steel production practices as part of our broader sustainability efforts. These initiatives are helping international customers address CBAM-related costs while also supporting broader ESG and environmental compliance requirements,” added Mr. Gupta. A major advantage for overseas buyers working with Renny Strips comes from the company’s comparatively lower carbon footprint. According to the company’s CBAM Carbon Tax Saving Analysis, Renny Strips Ltd.’s total carbon footprint has been estimated at 0.6385 tCO₂ per metric ton. In comparison, the conventional steel industry average stands at nearly 2.2 tCO₂ per metric ton. Based on these estimates, the difference works out to nearly 1.56 tCO₂ per metric ton of steel supplied which creates a substantial sustainability advantage for global buyers. The lower carbon footprint can also make a financial difference for buyers operating in Europe and other markets where carbon-related regulations are becoming stricter. Based on the current EU ETS/CBAM benchmark carbon price of nearly €75.36 per tCO₂, customers sourcing from Renny Strips may potentially lower carbon-linked import exposure by close to €117.67 per metric ton when compared to conventional steel suppliers. Industry estimates suggest that while conventional steel products may attract carbon-related exposure costs of around €165.79 per MT, the estimated impact for Renny’s Green Steel is close to €48.11 per MT. The difference becomes more visible in bulk shipments. Since one export container generally carries nearly 25 metric tons of material, estimated CBAM-related savings can reach approximately €2,941.75 per container for international buyers, creating a significant commercial and sustainability advantage for buyers operating within carbon-regulated markets. Apart from the financial aspect, many global companies are also focusing more closely on sustainability disclosures, supply-chain transparency, and ESG-linked procurement practices. In that context, Renny Strips’ lower-carbon manufacturing approach is helping customers align with Scope-3 emission targets, green sourcing requirements, and broader environmental compliance expectations. It also enables buyers to position their products and infrastructure projects as future-ready within increasingly sustainability-driven global markets. “The focus on sustainability is no longer limited to compliance alone. Buyers today are also looking at long-term environmental accountability, supply-chain transparency, and lower-emission sourcing practices while selecting manufacturing partners,” Mr. Gupta further added. The advantage is particularly relevant for automotive manufacturers, infrastructure developers, construction steel buyers, and ESG-focused industrial companies across Europe seeking reliable low-carbon sourcing partners with stronger traceability and compliance preparedness. To further strengthen transparency and credibility, the company’s greenhouse gas emissions have been independently verified by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with ISO 14064-3:2019 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The company has also received a 5-Star Green Steel Manufacturing Rating for its focus on lower-emission manufacturing and sustainable industrial practices. Renny Strips manages close to 90% of its raw material requirements through its own manufacturing operations. A significant portion of the production process is carried out within the company’s own facilities that help maintain continuity across production activities and consistency in manufacturing quality. The setup also allows closer monitoring of operational processes and energy usage across different stages of production. The company commissioned a 22 MW solar power plant in January 2026 as part of its renewable energy expansion programme. At present, the facility contributes close to 30% of the company’s overall power requirement. The company is also introducing AI-supported monitoring and real-time tracking systems across its manufacturing operations to improve process monitoring and emissions data tracking. Apart from structural steel manufacturing, Renny Strips has gradually expanded its business into scaffolding and formwork systems used in infrastructure and industrial projects. In many of these projects, buyers today are paying closer attention not only to product strength and reliability but also to how sustainably the materials are being manufactured. • Tourism Conclave on “Destination Telangana – The Road Ahead” at NITHM throws up new branding ideas for Telangana Tourism

Hyderabad, May 24, 2026: The National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management (NITHM), jointly promoted by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and the Government of Telangana under the aegis of the Youth Advancement, Tourism & Culture (YAT&C) Department, organised a Tourism Conclave on “Destination Telangana – The Road Ahead” at the NITHM Campus, Gachibowli, Hyderabad, as the concluding event of the weeklong Tourism Week celebrations held under the Government of Telangana’s “Prajalavaddaku Palana” initiative on Friday. The conclave brought together policymakers, tourism experts, hospitality leaders, branding specialists and industry stakeholders to deliberate on the future of tourism in Telangana and the opportunities emerging in domestic, heritage, experiential and sustainable tourism. Inaugurating the conclave, Patel Ramesh Reddy, Chairman, Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC), said tourism is a powerful engine of economic development, employment generation and youth empowerment. He stated that tourism imparts valuable life skills, broadens perspectives and creates livelihood opportunities across sectors. He informed that Telangana has already attracted investments worth Rs 16,000 crore in tourism through the PPP model and described Tourism Week as an excellent initiative to promote tourism awareness and participation. He emphasised that the Government considers tourism a priority sector and invited the industry to come forward with innovative ideas, particularly in village tourism, which he said holds tremendous untapped potential. L. Ranjeet Nayak, Director of Tourism, Government of Telangana, spoke on “Making Telangana the Hub for Green and Sustainable Tourism.” He described the conclave theme as timely and futuristic, highlighting the importance of inclusive and sustainable tourism models. He also suggested organising a Mango Festival to promote seasonal and experiential tourism. Prof. Venkatramana, Director, NITHM, delivered the introductory address and highlighted the institute’s commitment to promoting tourism education, research and industry collaboration. A major attraction of the conclave was the CEO Panel Discussion on “Destination Telangana – The Road Ahead,” chaired by Tarun Singh Chauhan of TSC Consulting. The panel featured D. Ramchandram, Co-Chairman, Tourism Committee, FTCCI; Nagesh Pampati, President, TAAI Telangana Chapter; Aditya Deendayal, Executive Director, Alankrita Resort; Abhishek Patawar, CEO, Weddings by Patawar; and Arnab Gupta, General Manager, Taj Deccan. Speaking during the session, Tarun Singh Chauhan observed that tourism succeeds when destinations sell experiences, emotions and identity — not merely locations. He cited the transformation of Nashik through Sula Vineyards as a benchmark for destination-led economic development and experiential tourism in India. He also suggested that Telangana create strong symbolic tourism identities similar to how Kashmir is associated with the Chinar tree, Kerala with backwaters and coconuts, Rajasthan with forts and camels, and Goa with beaches. Telangana, he said, possesses powerful cultural assets such as Bathukamma, Deccan heritage, lakes, forts, cuisine and the Kohinoor legacy, which can collectively shape a globally recognisable tourism identity. D. Ramchandram, Co-chairman of Tourism Committee of FTCCI, a 108-year-old trade body, spoke extensively on Telangana’s branding potential and described the state as an under-discovered destination with immense opportunities in Deccan heritage tourism, cultural tourism, spiritual tourism, festival tourism and experience tourism. He said Telangana represents a unique fusion civilisation shaped by South Indian, Persian, Telugu, Urdu, Islamic, folk and tribal influences. He advocated positioning Telangana as the cultural heart of the Deccan and called for stronger destination branding, tourism circuits and international marketing. Ramchandram highlighted the untapped global branding value of the Kohinoor diamond, noting that while the world recognises the Kohinoor, very few know of its Telangana origins. He described the Kohinoor legacy as a potential luxury heritage tourism brand for the state. He also stressed the need to aggressively promote homestays and revealed that the Tourism Committee of FTCCI had proposed a free capacity-building programme to help establish nearly 800 homestays across eight key tourism destinations in Telangana. Sharing lighter cultural observations, he remarked that Hyderabad’s chai culture reflects the city’s social vibrancy, saying, “Before social media came, there was chai. In Telangana, every tea stall is an unofficial parliament session.” He further explained the acronym TELANGANA as Traditions, Expressions, Lakes, Arts, Nature, Glory, Architecture, Narratives and Aspirations. Recalling a remark once made by former President of India Ram Nath Kovind that Hyderabad was known for “Biryani, Bahubali and Badminton,” D. Ramchandram, noted PR professional and Co-Chairman of the FTCCI Tourism Committee, creatively expanded the idea by presenting Telangana’s “Big Bs” — Biryani, Badminton, Bahubali, Bangles, Bathukamma, Bonalu, Bagara Baingan, Bidriware, Biotechnology, Biscuits and Bun Maska — as symbolic representations of the state’s rich cultural, culinary, industrial and lifestyle identity. Other panellists also shared important perspectives. Nagesh Pampati described tourism as a “classroom without walls.” Aditya Deendayal pointed out the need for stronger tourism circuits across Telangana, while Arnab Gupta highlighted the hospitality potential of the state. Abhishek Patawar observed that Hyderabad is increasingly emerging as a preferred destination wedding hub. Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, who graced the conclave during the later sessions, presented a powerful vision for Telangana tourism. He said that if Telangana’s 3.5 crore citizens travel within the state for just two days every month, it could create a vibrant year-round tourism economy across districts, towns and villages. He noted that this vision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s repeated call for citizens to explore India and reduce avoidable foreign travel to conserve foreign exchange and strengthen domestic economies. The Minister also spoke about “Prabhata Bheri,” the Telangana Government’s emerging cultural and tourism awareness initiative designed as a cultural awakening, social awareness and tourism movement aimed at promoting heritage, storytelling, folk arts and community engagement. In a virtual address during a special session on heritage preservation and tourism-friendly urban development, Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Special Chief Secretary, Government of Telangana, Metropolitan Area & Urban Development (HMDA Limits), said: “Future-ready cities are not only investment destinations — they are experience destinations. Urban development today must integrate tourism, culture, public spaces, accessibility and local experiences to create vibrant economic ecosystems. Tourism thrives where cities create experiences, connectivity and cultural vibrancy.” The conclave also featured focused sessions on heritage conservation, sustainable tourism and stakeholder collaboration. A session on “Towards Preserving Heritage and Making Cities Tourist-Friendly,” chaired by Prof. Arjun Rao Kuthadi, highlighted the importance of heritage conservation, urban planning and citizen participation, with contributions from Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, and INTACH representative Er. Veda Kumar Manikonda. Another important session on “Making Telangana the Hub for Green and Sustainable Tourism,” chaired by L. Ranjeet Nayak, IFS, brought together leaders from Ramoji Film City and Pragati Resorts to discuss eco-tourism, responsible hospitality and sustainable destination development. The conclave concluded with a strong call for collaborative efforts between government, industry, entrepreneurs and communities to position Telangana as one of India’s most distinctive and experience-driven tourism destinations. • Beyond the Award: A Moment That Will Stay With Me Forever: Dr Pratik Mungekar

Certain moments in life cannot be measured by certificates, trophies, or applause. They become memories etched into the heart — reminders of why we began our journey in the first place. Receiving the Vocational Excellence Award 2026 from the Rotary Club of Dombivli was one such unforgettable experience. Standing on that stage, surrounded by respected dignitaries, educators, social contributors, and inspiring personalities from different fields, I felt an overwhelming mix of gratitude, humility, and emotion. The award was presented to me by the esteemed Avinash Narkar, in the gracious presence of Aishwarya Narkar and President Snehal Shinde Ma’am, making the occasion even more special and memorable. But the true highlight of the evening was not the award itself. It was the emotional connection shared in that hall. As my work in research and education was acknowledged, the audience rose for a standing ovation. For a few seconds, time almost stood still. Looking at people clapping with genuine affection, offering blessings, smiling through tears, and expressing heartfelt appreciation was an experience I will cherish forever. In today’s world, where success is often reduced to numbers, titles, and visibility, moments like these remind us what truly matters — human impact. Education is not merely about teaching lessons from books. Research is not simply about publishing papers or earning recognition. The real purpose of both lies in touching lives, shaping futures, and creating meaningful change in society. That standing ovation was not for one speech, one achievement, or one milestone. It was a reflection of years of dedication, persistence, struggle, learning, and unwavering belief in the power of knowledge and humanity. Every journey has its silent chapters. There were days filled with uncertainty. There were moments of exhaustion. Some obstacles tested patience and resilience. Some sacrifices often went unnoticed. Yet every challenge became meaningful in that single emotional moment. What made the evening even more heartwarming was the response to my speech, which many lovingly called a “super-duper hit.” While the appreciation was deeply encouraging, I genuinely believe the applause belonged to everyone who has been part of my journey. To every student who trusted my guidance. To every mentor who shaped my thinking. To every colleague, friend, family member, and well-wisher who believed in me during difficult times — this honour belongs to all of you. No success story is ever written alone. As I accepted this award, I also felt the weight of a greater responsibility. Recognition should never make us comfortable; it should inspire us to work even harder. It should remind us that there are still countless lives to impact, countless ideas to explore, and countless dreams waiting to be nurtured through education and innovation. This recognition has renewed my commitment to continue working with sincerity toward research, education, social contribution, and humanity. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Rotary Club of Dombivli for this incredible honour and for creating such a beautiful and emotional celebration. My sincere thanks to every person present there whose blessings and encouragement made the evening truly unforgettable. Some achievements make us proud. But some moments make us emotional enough to pause, reflect, and simply say: “This is why the journey was worth it.” And this was undoubtedly one of those moments.

  • Stories veiled in Monochrome: The tranquillity of Soumita's Fragments of Silence lingers

At the ongoing Bengal Art Factory's Summer Edition, a contemplative hush seems to gather around one particular canvas — Soumita Saha’s self-portrait Fragments of Silence. Amidst a constellation of participating artists, this work quietly asserts itself as the exhibition’s centre of attraction, not through spectacle, but through a layered introspection that invites viewers to linger, decode, and return. The composition is striking in its deliberate restraint. The subject — the artist herself — emerges in a nuanced monochrome, her presence almost suspended between revelation and withdrawal. This grayscale rendering is neither bleak nor subdued; instead, it becomes a psychological terrain, allowing emotion to speak through tonal subtleties rather than overt drama. In poignant contrast, two cards within the frame break the monochromatic stillness. These elements, rendered in colour, become visual anchors — vibrant yet uneasy — their surfaces stained with newspaper prints. The juxtaposition is deliberate: personal identity framed against mediated reality, private silence interrupted by the noise of public narratives. The use of newspaper textures suggests the relentless imprint of external discourse on the self. Headlines, fragments, and typographic residues appear not merely as aesthetic devices but as metaphors for the contemporary condition, where personal introspection coexists with the weight of collective information. Through this interplay, Saha constructs a dialogue between interiority and influence, solitude and scrutiny. Reflecting on her choice of subject, the artist remarks, “I have always resonated deeply with Frida Kahlo’s belief that she painted herself because she was the subject she understood the best. I rely on that thought profoundly. In many ways, I, too, believe the self is the most honest landscape available to me.” This philosophical alignment becomes evident in Fragments of Silence, where the gaze is not outward but inward, searching for meaning in stillness. The exhibition, held at the Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark, brings together a diverse group of artists, each presenting distinctive visual languages. Yet Saha’s work distinguishes itself through its meditative intensity and conceptual clarity. Rather than competing for attention, it draws viewers into a quieter engagement — one that unfolds gradually, almost like a whispered conversation. Saha further contextualises her approach by invoking another towering figure in art history: “I often think about how Vincent van Gogh returned to his own image repeatedly, using self-portraiture as a means of understanding existence itself. That persistence inspired me. Choosing myself as a subject is not an act of self-obsession, but an attempt to examine vulnerability, perception, and identity through the only experience I truly inhabit.” This connection situates Fragments of Silence within a lineage of introspective self-portraiture, while still maintaining its distinctly contemporary voice. The painting does not merely depict the artist; it constructs a layered reflection on selfhood shaped by memory, media, and emotional quietude. In a hall filled with varied expressions, Soumita Saha’s canvas stands like a pause between sentences — subtle yet unforgettable. Fragments of Silence does not demand attention; it earns it, slowly, thoughtfully, and with enduring resonance.
