  • Ramagya School announces MUN 2025 to champion youth diplomacy and global conversations

Ramagya School, Sector 50, Noida, has announced its highly-regarded Model United Nations Conference (MUN 2025) on July 17th and 18th, 2025. Following the huge success of its inaugural conference in 2024, the follow-up edition is going to be a benchmark event for future leaders to debate major issues facing the world today, learn effective diplomacy, and together imagine a better and more peaceful world. The conference is a reflection of Ramagya School's vision dating back long to groom not only top scholars but also empathetic leaders, thinkers, and global citizens. The conference is being organized by the Ramagya School MUN Society, a serious platform which seeks to provide global visions and policy sensitization among young students. The MUN Society has grown progressively over the years to become a platform for intellectual discourse, cross-cultural exchange, and constructive debate ever since its inception, making the school a leading voice in instilling global consciousness among the student population. The second Ramagya School MUN will be held under the broad theme of "Redrawing Diplomacy Amidst a Shifting World Order." It will aim to put in the limelight the increasing importance of young people in global politics and the need to make their voice heard about issues of today.  The event is a perfect fit for the educational philosophy of Ramagya School that believes in peace, compassion, creativity and social responsibility, upholding the belief that education must transcend books and classrooms to lead to responsible and well-informed global citizens.Spreading her message, Mrs. Rina Singh, Principal, Ramagya School said, "Education is the door to a harmonious world and by spreading the light of education, we can build a world where human rights are not ideals but everyday facts." She continued to address the young delegates further adding, "As MUNers, you hold the potential to create a future founded on justice and freedom. Through your debates and resolutions, you will not only mimic global leaders but also sow seeds for revolutionary change."  Closing out her message she added, "Let this MUN be a stepping stone towards a world where every individual can dream, succeed, and live with dignity. Let's all work together towards peace, equality, and humanity, where everyone will have an opportunity to prosper." The organizing committee reassured that the two-day conference was going to be a rich and integrated experience for veteran MUN delegates and beginners alike. Observing the months of genuine effort invested in building a platform for reflective discussion, the organizers had reason to regret their enthusiasm for creating a platform where ideas flower, issues are addressed, and diplomacy is cherished. They encouraged all the delegates to envelop themselves in the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that defines the very nature of Model United Nations and engage in debates with passion and creativity.  The organizing team also displayed their eagerness in inviting participants for this highly anticipated second edition. “Let’s make this MUN an unforgettable experience rooted in diplomacy, creativity, and collaboration,” they shared in a collective message. This year’s edition will feature three significant committees deliberating on globally relevant agendas. The United Nations General Assembly will be taking up the question of redevelopment of post-conflict areas, focusing specifically on Syria, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Gaza. The United Nations Human Rights Council will be considering the ongoing challenges to the protection of human rights in Ukraine and Palestine. At the same time, the United Nations Security Council will consider the UNSC role in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Gaza. Through these discussions, the delegates will walk through the intricacies of modern geopolitics, humanitarian issues, and diplomatic negotiations.Throughout two stimulating days, the attendants will have a true learning experience hosted in the world-class campus of Ramagya School. The conference will entail participatory involvement by a diverse set of schools and student groups with debates inspired by the real world addressing issues of global concern, including peacekeeping, human rights, security at the borders, and reconstruction in post-conflict zones. The activity aims to hone applicable skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, negotiation, and collaborative work to prepare students to engage with the world beyond classrooms confidently. Ramagya School remains committed to its tradition of providing enriching learning experiences that go far beyond mere academics.MUN 2025 is hoped to be yet another benchmark on this journey — an initiative that equips students not just for examinations but for life. With the conference approaching, the school looks forward to hosting a lively, enriching, and empowering conference that equips students to assume roles as well-informed, responsible, and compassionate world citizens.

The future of women's empowerment, according to me, involves a multi-pronged approach that prioritizes women's leadership, economic independence, safety, and equal participation in all aspects of society. My vision for the future of women's empowerment is deeply intertwined with the concept of self-belief. I do emphasize the importance of women recognizing their own worth and potential, encouraging them to make their own choices and effect social change. I believe that women's empowerment is a continuous process without a definitive endpoint, requiring constant effort and dedication. The movement for women's empowerment requires the active participation of men and boys. Gender equality is not solely a women's issue; it's a collective responsibility. Men, who often hold the majority of leadership positions, can leverage their power to create positive change in the workplace and beyond. Being an ally means confronting oppressive behavior and advocating for others, aiming for a fairer world. Men can support women's empowerment by rejecting traditional gender divisions. This involves challenging the idea that certain activities, hobbies, or jobs are exclusively for one gender. Men can also challenge stereotypical gender roles by teaching boys that they don’t have to adhere to them. They can also challenge the "likeability penalty" where women are often perceived less favorably when successful. Men should evaluate performance fairly, ensuring that criteria are clear and measurable. They should also give women credit for their contributions, recognizing that women are often undervalued. Men can counteract biases by emphasizing women's accomplishments and encouraging them to pursue opportunities. Education provides women with the knowledge and skills necessary for participation in economic, social, and political life. Health and well-being is important to lay emphasis on. Access to quality healthcare services ensures women's health and overall well-being. Economic empowerment of women is a must ensuring women have access to resources and opportunities to improve their livelihoods, including equal pay and career advancement. Encouraging women's involvement in decision-making processes at all levels of governance. Elimination of violence against women is the need of the hour. Creating safe environments, free of violence and harassment. Legal rights and protection must be a mandate. Supporting policies that protect women's rights are required on a larger scale. Technological advancements offer significant opportunities for women's empowerment. Expanding internet access and e-commerce platforms can improve employment prospects, increase access to education, and facilitate advocacy for rights. Social media platforms have been essential for connecting women and promoting movements like #MeToo. To empower women, a multi-pronged approach is essential. This includes mentorship programs, skill development, and promoting inclusivity in the workplace. Organizations should actively promote diversity, address biases, and implement policies that combat discrimination. Youth-led initiatives are crucial in driving progress toward gender equality. These initiatives can spearhead innovative, community-driven solutions to accelerate progress. The future of women's empowerment depends on addressing the challenges and leveraging opportunities. This includes dismantling systemic barriers, promoting inclusive policies, and investing in education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for women. It also involves fostering a supportive societal and cultural environment, utilizing technology, and empowering women to lead and advocate for their rights. What are the future challenges to women empowerment? Future challenges to women's empowerment are inclusive of: The journey towards women's empowerment is ongoing, and while progress has been made, several challenges remain and are likely to persist in the future. These challenges are multifaceted and require sustained effort from various stakeholders. 1. Persistent Gender-Based Violence and Discrimination: Gender-based violence (GBV) continues to be a significant barrier to women's empowerment globally. This includes physical, emotional, and sexual violence, which can limit women's freedom, health, and economic opportunities. In the future, addressing GBV will require stronger legal frameworks, improved enforcement, and a shift in societal attitudes that perpetuate violence. Furthermore, discrimination in the workplace, including sexual harassment, unfair hiring practices, and unequal pay, will continue to hinder women's progress. 2. Economic Inequality and the Gender Pay Gap: Economic disparities and the gender pay gap are persistent issues that will likely continue to challenge women's empowerment. Women often earn less than men for the same work, limiting their financial independence and economic opportunities. Closing this gap requires policies that promote equal pay, support working mothers, and foster inclusive workplaces. The World Economic Forum estimates that it will take 257 years to close the global gender pay gap at the current rate. 3. Limited Access to Education and Healthcare: Inadequate access to education and healthcare remains a significant hurdle. Millions of girls and young women may remain out of school, limiting their opportunities for personal and professional growth. Stalled progress in reducing maternal mortality and expanding educational opportunities calls for targeted interventions to meet the 2030 goals. Ensuring access to quality education and healthcare is crucial for women's well-being and empowerment. 4. Social Norms and Cultural Practices: Harmful social norms and cultural practices, such as child marriage and female genital mutilation, continue to limit women's choices and opportunities. Challenging these norms requires attitudinal shifts, the promotion of legal frameworks, and community engagement. Traditional gender roles and societal expectations also influence women's lives, often confining them to certain spaces and limiting their aspirations. 5. Lack of Political Representation and Leadership: Women are still underrepresented in leadership positions in both the public and private sectors. Advancing gender parity in positions of leadership is essential to ensure that women's ideas and viewpoints are heard during the policy-making process. Increasing women's participation in politics is crucial for achieving gender equality and driving positive change in societies. 6. Inadequate Funding and Implementation of Gender Equality Initiatives: Insufficient funding for gender equality initiatives and poorly enforced legislation pose significant challenges. Additional investment is needed to achieve gender equality by 2030. Effective implementation of existing legislation remains a challenge, requiring sustained efforts to promote gender equality. In the words of Mayaa, "Women's empowerment is not a monolithic concept, and future efforts must address the diverse needs of different groups of women. This includes recognizing the unique challenges faced by indigenous women, women with disabilities, and refugee and migrant women. Intersectionality, which considers how different forms of discrimination intersect, is crucial for creating inclusive and equitable solutions. Women are disproportionately affected by climate change and environmental degradation. Addressing gender disparities in climate change solutions is essential for ensuring sustainable development. Women's role as climate change champions and their contributions to environmental conservation must be recognized and supported." • Korah: A Canvas of Purpose, Painted with Heart By Mahi Anil Patil

Ever since I can remember, art has been the one language I understood—long before I knew how to speak it. I’m Mahi Anil Patil, and I grew up drawing on the backs of notebooks and painting on empty walls when no one was watching. Art wasn’t a pastime—it was my instinct. A rhythm that pulsed quietly within me, louder than words. From school corridors to quiet corners at home, I carved out time for color. I took elementary art exams, explored new forms, watched YouTube tutorials, and wandered through exhibitions, soaking in every texture and tone. Competitions came and went—some with trophies, many without—but the one constant was the canvas. That was my space. My sanctuary. Rangoli designs, festive murals, handcrafted decorations—these weren’t tasks, they were joy. Slowly, that joy evolved into a vision. Art went from being a passion to becoming a purpose. I started assisting my mother in conducting workshops—teaching art to children in slum areas and our local community. Their eyes lit up at the sight of a paintbrush. That’s when I learned something life-changing: art doesn’t diminish when shared. It multiplies. Out of this realization, a dream took shape—not loud, but sincere. I wanted to create something that didn’t just reflect me , but echoed us . With my friend and co-creator Gauri Munj by my side, Korah  was born. Korah isn’t just a label. It’s late-night brainstorming and spilled paint. It’s slow mornings filled with cross-legged discussions about which shade of pink best tells a story. Each tote bag, every hand-painted tee—holds a slice of who we are. Made for a generation that craves connection, speaks in color, and embraces the imperfect, Korah is for those who find magic in the handmade. But the journey doesn’t end with design. The income we generate from pop-up stalls, boutique collaborations, and online exhibitions goes back into the communities that shaped us. Through art workshops in NGOs, underserved schools, and forgotten neighborhoods, we invest in brushes, colors, and more importantly—confidence. Because art gave me a voice. Through Korah, I now want to help others find theirs. Korah is not just a brand. It’s a quiet revolution. A shared heartbeat. And it’s only just beginning.

  • The Playful Art of Names“Aho! Te... My Hubby!”-Dr. Pravin Dumbre

The journey from Aho to My Hubby is quite a tale, isn’t it? In rural India, calling your husband by his name was practically unheard of. It was a cherished tradition, passed down like a family heirloom. Those were the golden days of joint families, homes abuzz with people. If you had to pass a message to him—the man of the house—it went through the kids or the womenfolk. “Tell him this,” you’d whisper. His reply would come back the same way: “Tell her that.” Done! The poor little messengers would be exhausted from all the back-and-forth. Eventually, when they got fed up, the newlyweds would sneak shy glances at each other. The Playful Art of Names“Aho! Te... My Hubby!”-Dr. Pravin Dumbre This quiet, roundabout chatter became entertainment for everyone else. They’d join the fun, especially when the couple pretended to be cross with each other. These playful exchanges rarely reached the elders, who were often away during the day, giving the couple some rare moments to themselves. That’s how respect for elders was beautifully woven into daily life. During Satyanarayan Pujas, Gondhals, Jagrans, or when visiting or hosting guests—no matter their age—couples were expected to say each other’s names after the rituals. No name, no moving forward! The bride always went first, and the pressure was real. Even the elders would sometimes forget the groom’s name and nudge her: “Come on, girl, say it!” But just saying the name wasn’t enough. It had to be in an ukhaana—a poetic rhyme filled with rhythm, wit, and charm, with the husband’s name slipped in gracefully. A plain name wouldn’t do; it needed to be dressed in verse, delivered with affection and a dash of mischief. An ukhaana was a lyrical performance—full of metaphors and melody. The bride had to say it loud and proud, with her husband’s name right in the middle. Some cheeky guests would tease, “We didn’t hear it! Say it again!” just to fluster the blushing bride and enjoy the moment. That’s how enchanting a name could be. Here’s a classic example: चांदीच्या वाटीत पेढे भरून घेते, ....रावांचे नाव घेते, सुखाने संसार करते. “In a silver bowl, I pile sweet pedhas high, I say [Rav’s] name, and with joy, build our life by and by.” Silver bowls, plates, jugs, or pots were often the shining stars of these rhymes. As for the groom—he had it easier. He could say his wife’s name straight. But if nudged, he’d choose something simple, like: भाजीत भाजी मेथीची... माझ्या प्रितीची. “Of all the greens, methi’s what I adore, My darling [wife’s name], I love you more.” Those who couldn’t remember their ukhaana would practice it for a month before the wedding or cram it like a last-minute exam. Still nervous? The kalwara or kalwarya—the couple’s support squad—would whisper the name just in time. Of course, someone always overheard, causing giggles all around. At weddings, older women would push their nath aside, take the mic, and belt out ukhaanas, stealing the show. Back then, name-calling was mostly for public rituals. At home, it remained hushed. Whispers in the kitchen or soft laughter in the living room carried affection. Eventually, affectionate titles like karbhari (master), karbharin (mistress), yajman (head of the house), aamche he (our guy), or aamche hi (our gal) became more common. Later, it evolved into Patil, Ravsahab, Sarpanch, Guruji, or Sir. Working men became Sahab, shopkeepers became Sheth, and these labels stuck—at home and in society. The Playful Art of Names“Aho! Te... My Hubby!”-Dr. Pravin Dumbre Of course, with the ups and downs of marriage, neighbors sometimes overheard not-so-sweet name-calling too. Now, with video recordings and social media, this tradition has gone full Bollywood! One ukhaana has practically become a viral chant: “In the twinkling blue sky, stars shine so bright, I say [Rav’s] name—listen close, hold tight! Say the name, say the name—what’s it gonna be? In the end, he’s just Aho to me. On humble varan-bhaat, I pour a dollop of ghee, Calling [Rav’s] name, I’ll now be his Sasubai. His little sister, once running all around, Now rules as Nanandbai, proud and renowned. I’ll care for [Rav’s] little ones with heart and grace, Say the name—let this love fill the space. On simple varan-bhaat, I pour a spoonful of ghee, Saying [Rav’s] name, I enter his family.” These days, wives will call out, “Aho! Did you hear? Grab this from the market!” It’s classic. Men often say, “When there’s work to be done, they call so sweetly.” Later, you might hear them complain, “My guy’s clueless about shopping—anyone could fool him!” As gender equality blossomed, calling each other by name became natural. First names, nicknames, even terms like Aai, Baba, Mummy, or Daddy—originally for kids—became how couples addressed each other around their children. And when love hits its peak? “Husband” evolves into “My Hubby.” Shakespeare asked, “What’s in a name?” But when names become part of a lifelong bond, they’re worn with pride. Women are encouraged to recite ukhaanas, and men are nudged too—some shyly, others with flair. Some even become ukhaana stars, thriving in the spotlight! This delightful tradition, especially at weddings, sparks affection and warmth between couples. And I can’t help but feel—when such traditions fade, perhaps a little spark of love fades too. What’s your take on it? Author: Dr. Pravin Dumbre, Otur (Pune) 9766550643 The Playful Art of Names“Aho! Te... My Hubby!”-Dr. Pravin Dumbre Translated by: Dr (HC) Prachetan Potadar
