Pune, India: Estrange Aurora recently hosted an engaging and thought-provoking leadership session featuring Sumita Ghose, Founder of Rangsutra and Board Member of Charkha Development Communication Network. The interactive conversation explored themes of human dignity, ethical leadership, artisan empowerment, sustainable growth, and the enduring value of India's traditional crafts.

Widely regarded as one of India's pioneering social entrepreneurs, Sumita Ghose has played a transformative role in building sustainable livelihoods for artisan communities. Through Rangsutra, she has empowered more than 2,000 artisan families—predominantly women—across India by creating market-driven opportunities while preserving the country's rich craft heritage. Rangsutra stands as a compelling example of how business growth, social impact, environmental responsibility, and technology can coexist to create lasting change.
The session was moderated through an insightful interview panel featuring Jyoti More, Shruti Joshi, and Dr. (HC) Prachetan Potadar, whose diverse perspectives enriched the discussion and transformed it into a multidimensional dialogue on leadership, values, purpose, and societal transformation.
During the conversation, Sumita Ghose emphasised that traditional knowledge systems should not merely be preserved in museums but integrated into everyday life by creating greater demand for handcrafted products. According to her, supporting artisans is not just about safeguarding heritage—it is about generating sustainable livelihoods, strengthening local economies, and enabling inclusive business growth.
Speaking on leadership and empowerment, she shared that empowerment is not an event but a continuous journey built on ownership, self-belief, and meaningful choices. She highlighted that true transformation occurs when individuals are trusted to become active contributors and equal participants in the growth of an organisation.

One of the session's most powerful moments came when Sumita reflected on the gradual disappearance of traditional crafts. She noted that when a craft is lost, society loses far more than an economic opportunity—it loses generations of cultural memory, inherited wisdom, community identity, and stories that define civilisation itself.
As she aptly observed:
"Craft is civilization in motion."
Discussing sustainable growth, Sumita challenged conventional notions of scale by stating:
"Scale matters only when it strengthens impact without compromising trust, authenticity, and human connection."
She further reflected that while growth can create impressive numbers, growth rooted in values creates an enduring legacy and long-term impact.
The conversation also explored dignity-led leadership and ethical business models.
Sumita emphasised that organisations thrive when every individual—whether an employee, stakeholder, artisan, or contributor—feels a genuine sense of ownership and partnership in the shared mission. According to her, meaningful leadership is built on collaboration, mutual respect, and collective responsibility.
Addressing the future of innovation, she acknowledged that technology will continue to reshape industries but stressed that empathy, emotional intelligence, and human sensitivity must remain at the heart of progress. She also shared inspiring examples of how technology can be leveraged to benefit both people and the environment without compromising traditional wisdom.
Leaving the audience with a message of resilience and purpose, Sumita remarked
That the universe often supports those who are truly prepared, regardless of the resources they possess.
Through conversations like these, Estrange Aurora continues to strengthen its commitment to creating authentic platforms that encourage meaningful dialogue, inspire purposeful leadership, challenge conventional thinking, and drive positive social impact.
The complete session will soon be available on Estrange Aurora's official YouTube channel for viewers across the world.
