- AI IN EDUCATION: A TOOL FOR LEARNING OR A SHORTCUT TO CHEATING? – DR.PRATIK MUNGEKAR FRSA
Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools like ChatGPT are transforming education by making learning more accessible, interactive, and efficient. However, as powerful as these tools are, they come with a critical responsibility. Recently, both students and teachers have started using AI in ways that can be harmful to the learning process, leading to academic dishonesty and a weakening of essential skills. 1. What is ChatGPT and Why Is It Misused? ChatGPT is an AI tool designed to help with everything from answering questions to drafting essays. While it’s an incredible resource, its misuse often comes from its ease of access. Instead of being a learning aid, it’s sometimes used as a shortcut to avoid the hard work of thinking critically, doing research, or completing assignments. For Students : Some students rely on AI to write essays, answer test questions, or complete homework without putting in the effort to learn the material themselves. While this may seem like a quick win, it leads to superficial understanding and weakens your skills over time. For Teachers : Some educators may use AI to generate lesson plans or assessments without considering the unique needs of their students. This can result in a one-size-fits-all approach, which overlooks the importance of personalized teaching. 2. Ethical Use of AI for Students: Tools for Learning, Not Cheating As a student, it’s essential to recognize that ChatGPT is a tool designed to enhance your learning, not replace it. When used correctly, it can provide valuable help, but abusing it can lead to poor academic integrity and a lack of real understanding. Use AI to Support, Not Replace Learning : AI can help clarify difficult concepts or provide explanations, but it shouldn’t be used to complete assignments for you. For example, you can ask ChatGPT to explain a difficult math problem, but avoid using it to generate an entire essay on your behalf. Doing so takes away the opportunity to develop critical thinking and writing skills. Understand the Material : When using AI, make sure you understand the content it provides. Don’t just copy and paste answers—take the time to learn from the AI's responses. This way, you're still learning and engaging with the material, rather than using it as a crutch. Academic Integrity : Misusing AI in your studies is similar to plagiarism. Copying an AI-generated essay or solution without proper attribution is dishonest and can lead to serious academic consequences. Your goal in education should always be to learn, not just to complete an assignment. Dr Pratik Mungekar 3. Ethical Use of AI for Teachers: Enhancing, Not Automating the Teaching Process For teachers, AI can be a fantastic aid in lesson planning, grading, or even providing personalized learning suggestions. However, using AI carelessly can result in overlooking the individual needs of students and diminishing the teacher-student relationship. Personalized Learning, Not Cookie-Cutter Teaching : AI can help you generate quizzes or lesson plans, but it should never replace your personal insight into what your students need. For example, if ChatGPT generates a lesson plan, take the time to adjust it based on your students' learning styles and challenges. Monitoring Student Use of AI : Teachers also need to be aware of how students are using AI. Encourage responsible use, and make clear the boundaries of acceptable assistance. Teach your students that AI is there to help them learn, not to do the work for them. Critical Thinking : While AI can provide information, it’s your role as a teacher to encourage students to think critically about that information. Encourage discussions, debates, and assignments that require students to apply their knowledge in creative ways, ensuring that AI tools enhance, not replace, human thought. 4. The Consequences of AI Misuse Abusing AI tools can have far-reaching consequences for both students and educators. Here’s what’s at stake: For Students : Misusing AI tools like ChatGPT can lead to poor academic performance in the long run. If you rely too heavily on AI, you won’t develop the problem-solving, critical thinking, and research skills that are crucial for success in school and future careers. Cheating with AI also comes with academic penalties, including failing grades or disciplinary action. For Teachers : Over-reliance on AI tools can lead to disengaged teaching. If you allow AI to take over tasks like lesson planning and assessment creation, you risk losing the personal connection with your students, which is key to effective teaching. You may also miss opportunities to address individual learning needs. 5. Building AI Literacy and Ethics in the Classroom To prevent AI misuse, it’s important to encourage AI literacy and ethical awareness among students and teachers. Here’s how: Teach AI Ethics : Both students and teachers need to be educated on the ethical use of AI. Schools should incorporate lessons on AI’s potential and its ethical challenges. This will help students understand the responsible ways to use tools like ChatGPT and what constitutes misuse. Promote Transparent Use : Encourage transparency in how AI is used. Students should feel comfortable discussing when and how they’ve used AI for their assignments. For example, if you’ve used ChatGPT to help brainstorm ideas for an essay, acknowledge that rather than hiding it. This promotes a healthy and ethical relationship with AI tools. Create Guidelines : Schools and educators should create clear guidelines for AI use in the classroom. These guidelines should detail what is considered responsible use and what crosses the line into misuse. This clarity will help students and teachers navigate AI ethically. 6. Using AI Responsibly: Practical Tips For Students : Use AI as a Study Aid : Ask ChatGPT to explain difficult concepts, but try to write your own essays and solutions based on what you’ve learned. Practice Integrity : Be honest about the assistance you’ve received from AI, and avoid relying on it for tasks you’re expected to complete yourself. Develop Skills : Instead of taking shortcuts, use AI to help build the skills you need, such as critical thinking, writing, and problem-solving. For Teachers : Leverage AI for Efficiency : Use AI to generate ideas or streamline administrative tasks, but always customize its output based on your students’ needs. Guide Students on Responsible Use : Teach students the value of doing their own work and how to use AI as a supplementary tool, not a replacement for learning. Monitor and Discuss : Have open discussions with your students about how they’re using AI, and keep track of trends to address any ethical concerns that arise. Conclusion AI tools like ChatGPT have the power to transform education, but only if used responsibly. For students, this means using AI to enhance your learning, not to cut corners. For teachers, this means integrating AI into your teaching process without losing the personal touch that makes education so impactful. By encouraging an environment of ethical AI use, both students and teachers can ensure that AI serves as a powerful tool for learning and growth, rather than a shortcut to avoid the hard work of education. Let’s embrace AI responsibly and make it a partner in our academic journey—one that supports real learning and integrity in the classroom know more about author on this link : https://www.drmungekar.com/

- Value organisational performance not just on financial metrics but also on its social and environmental Impact: ESG & Sustainability experts
Many consumers are conscious of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and sustainability and are willing to pay more for sustainable products. A McKinsey survey said over 60% expressed their willingness to pay more for a product with sustainable packaging. In the same McKinsey Survey, 75% of millennials responded that they consider sustainability when they make a purchase. In another PwC survey, it was found that consumers were willing to pay an average of 9.7% more for sustainably produced or sourced goods. 31% of consumers revealed that their last purchase was made up of primarily "sustainable" or "environmentally responsible" items. Consumers are willing to change their buying behaviours to decrease the impact they have on the environment. Consumers are even willing to pay sustainability premiums. However, the government has not yet realised its gravity and need opined many speakers at the Road Show on Sustainability Impact Matters held at T-Hub, Madhapur The four-city road show was organised by The Aspire Impact , a social enterprise focused on leadership and ecosystem development in social and environmental impact, in partnership with British Council, Social Alpha, NSE and T-Hub. The roadshow which travelled to New Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru reached Hyderabad today and concluded with a half-day session. The objectives of the show were to make the Sustainability Impact and related matters such as ESG, sustainability and Impact Investing; Social Innovation; Impact Innovation, Acceleration and Entrepreneurship; Climate Ventures and ESG, Sustainability and Impact Measurement become mainstream discussions in our day-to-day conversations. Ajit Rangnekar, the Director General of Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) and former Dean of ISB said Telangana state was strongly committed to the overall development of the society. He spoke about innovation in every sphere of life and cited 'Intinta Innovator"(innovator in every house). Innovators from all walks of life, particularly those residing in rural Telangana, are encouraged to submit their ingenious ideas and projects, says Telangana State Innovation Cell. The cell acts as the government’s first response to innovators, start-ups, entrepreneurs and facilitators, Ajit Rangnekar added. The programme fosters an inclusive innovation ecosystem across the state of Telangana. The main aim of this program was to cultivate a culture of innovation from a young age, including within the government itself and to propel the State forward through homegrown innovation and entrepreneurship, he added. Sujit Jagirdar, CEO of T-Hub graced the closing of the Roadshow and gave his closing address. Yes, Sustainability Impact Matters. The area of your focus matters the most to us at T-Hub, he said. As most of the attendees of the Roadshow were first-time visitors to T-Hub, he gave an overview of the same and told them that in its 9-year journey, it incubated over 2500 startups. The impact is measured in many ways and as far as startups are concerned. Valuation is one of the ways to measure the impact of a startup. But we are not in that race now as most of the 500 startups being incubated currently at T-Hub are early-stage startups. The world’s social and environmental challenges are causing significant global disquiet, and protests against inaction are mounting. Governments, markets, corporations and individuals are responding by embracing Impact, embedding it in every business, investment, policy and consumption decision. The impact is very important. But it is largely ignored may be due to lack of any comprehensive and standard methodology to measure it, and due to failure of markets to value it said Amit Bhatia, Founder & CEO of Aspire Impact. But, off late things are changing. There is a growing recognition that we must value organisational performance not just on financial metrics but also on its social and environmental impact, he added Many experts such as Vivek Subramanian, Co-founder and ED of Fourth Partner Energy; two overseas speakers Mauricio Samper, CEO, Small Enterprise Assistance Funds(SEAF), Columbia; Kieron Boyle, CEO, 100x Social Impact Accelerator and Chair, Impact Investing Institute, UK and others addressed the 40 plus gathering. Kieron’s presence helped buttress our roadshow’s purpose to help Indian organizations accelerate their journey towards “Total Impact Performance”, learn from UK counterparts on how to design, build, scale and manage impact, and build better bridges for impact financing and impact entrepreneurship with the UK said Amit Bhatia. Bhatia further added that we will need to change the sustainable consumer movement to encourage them to buy only sustainable goods. New start-ups and large corporations are now increasingly embracing Impact. However, despite a strong startup ecosystem, with over 112,718 DPIIT(Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade)-recognized startups across 763 districts, 920+ incubators and accelerators, India is not among the top 10 hotspots for social innovations observed some of the speakers India must enhance its solid foundation and build greater bridges with world leaders in social innovation. The UK is one such leader and is home to the world’s first impact wholesaler (Big Society Capital), the world’s first impact bond (Peterborough SIB), the world’s only impact investment multilateral (GSG Impact with Impact Investing Institute as the UK National Advisory Board), and home to a pioneering accelerator (LSE’s 100x Impact Accelerator). Kieron Boyle, OBE, represents all these institutions & trends, as a Board Member of BSC, NAB CEO for III and future CEO of 100x Impact Accelerator, added other speakers. I believe the future lies in behavioural changes which are driven internally coming from Purpose and long-term sustainability rather than externally like regulations etc. This can be achieved when we can translate complex terms and concepts in a manner that a common person and child can understand. These roadshows are our attempt to help break those myths and make them commonplace, Viiveck Verma said. A panel discussion was held on ESG, Sustainability and Impact. It was moderated by Viiveck Verma, Chief Incubation Warrior, Global Carbon Warrior.

Her work often addresses themes of identity, economic freedom, and social justice, particularly focusing on women’s issues. She has contributed to over 150 anthologies and collaborated with more than 86 publication houses and 14 solo books, showcasing her prolific nature as a writer. Her first poem, “The Candle In The Wind,” won a national award, establishing her early credibility in the literary field. Mayaa SH gets candid in a conversation on her recent Win and the Walk Ahead in 2025. What according to you is the significance of winning these awards? Winning these awards is a significant milestone for me, reflecting on the dedication and impact in the fields of literature and women’s rights advocacy of all artists across the globe. I feel a profound sense of validation and recognition for my efforts in championing social causes, particularly those related to women’s empowerment. The awards not only acknowledge the literary contributions but also highlight the role of all those who are dedicated to striving hard to bring about meaningful change in society. Such accolades are not merely personal achievements but are emblematic of the collective struggles and aspirations of women everywhere. I view this recognition as an opportunity to amplify the voices of those who may not have the platform to share their stories. The honour serves as motivation to continue my work with even greater fervour, inspiring others to engage in activism and self-advocacy. Furthermore, winning these awards reinforces my belief in the importance of compassion, transparency, and non-violence as foundational principles for societal transformation. It aligns with the ideology that personal growth and healing are essential components of broader social progress. Thus, it can be inferred that I feel a mix of gratitude, responsibility, and renewed commitment towards my mission after receiving this award. What is Your Vision for Women's Empowerment in 2025? I see more pronounced frameworks and enforcement mechanisms being institutionalised to protect women from domestic violence, harassment of any sort, and other forms of abuse. Awareness campaigns and community programs will play a vital role in changing societal attitudes towards violence against women. Advocacy for gender equality will continue to be a driving force behind women’s empowerment efforts. By 2025, it is expected that there will be increased collaboration between governments, NGOs, and private sectors to promote gender-sensitive policies and practices. This collaborative approach aims to dismantle systemic barriers that hinder women’s progress. Women’s health issues must also be prioritised within the empowerment framework. Access to healthcare services, including reproductive health care and mental health support, will be essential components of the vision for 2025. Ensuring that women have control over their health decisions is crucial for their overall empowerment. Representation in Decision-Making: increasingly women’s representation in political and corporate decision-making positions is vital for achieving true empowerment. The goal by 2025 is to see more women occupying leadership roles across all sectors of society, influencing policies that affect their lives directly. Building strong community networks that support women’s rights and empowerment initiatives will be essential by 2025. These networks can provide mentorship opportunities, resources for skill development, and platforms for sharing experiences among women. What is Your viewpoint on Self-Belief? Self-belief is a foundational aspect of personal empowerment and growth, According to my perspective, self-belief begins from within and is crucial for overcoming challenges. She emphasizes that the word “Impossible” can be reinterpreted as “I am Possible,” highlighting the importance of a positive mindset in achieving one’s goals. This transformation of thought is essential because life invariably presents obstacles; however, it is the ability to convert these challenges into opportunities that define success. Self-belief fuels aspiration. When individuals have a desire or goal, their minds begin to strategize and plan for its fulfilment through imagination and intellectual engagement. This process involves critical thinking and contemplation, which are necessary for innovation and problem-solving. It has to be stressed that understanding one’s capabilities and limitations is vital; aspirations should align with one’s true nature and values rather than being based on unrealistic expectations or societal pressures. Moreover, the identification of several barriers to self-belief, particularly those stemming from gender inequalities and societal norms that can undermine women’s confidence is pivotal. Issues such as financial insecurity, low self-esteem due to societal denigration, job security concerns, and access to healthcare can significantly impact a woman’s sense of worth. Therefore, empowering women through education, health resources, financial independence, emotional support, and security is essential for fostering self-belief. Self-belief is to be viewed as an integral part of women’s empowerment. It enables individuals to pursue their aspirations with determination while navigating life’s complexities. By cultivating a strong sense of self-worth and aligning goals with personal values, women can challenge societal barriers and contribute meaningfully to their communities. This includes engaging in activities that benefit society at large.
